Cloud Security Alliance is the world’s leading organization dedicated to defining and raising awareness of best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment. I am a research analyst primarily focused on the CSA Security, Trust, Assurance, and Risk Registry (STAR) and Cloud Controls Matrix (CCM) initiatives. Additionally, as a member of The Open Group, I work with other members to create and update cybersecurity-related guidance, as well as the Digital Portfolio guidance. My guiding principles for content creation are to create content that is easy to consume, removes friction to knowledge transfer, and meets or exceeds accessibility guidelines.

Sustainable Evolution is a small consultancy, focused on creating training and content for delivery on web-based environments, as well as provide consulting focused on workforce development. In my leadership role, I provided consulting services for all IT-related functions, including technical writing, training creation and delivery, digital product design and delivery, agile/DevOps delivery method implementation for organizations, solution customer journey mapping, IT strategy definition and mapping, digital transformation operationalization, job role definition and organizational structure redesign, creation of training for career path transition or growth. I established and operated an apprenticeship program for Sustainable Evolution to grow new-to-workforce people or people transitioning career paths into roles that are technology based or require “digital citizen” skills of coding for automation and data analytics (Power BI, Power Analytics). As part of outreach efforts, I helped other companies and not-for-profits set up their own apprenticeship environments.

As a contractor (2014), I was the primary author for the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), working with field-based consultants and architects to harvest proven best practice to create the framework. I joined AWS in 2015 on the Worldwide Solutions Architecture team in AWS headquarters, harvesting field-based content to create publicly available reference architectures and whitepapers. I then shifted to the AWS Marketplace team to gain experience in agile product development using DevSecOps techniques and as part of the product management team, developing content for applications guidance, API usage, and general user guidance for being a partner or customer using AWS Marketplace.

We all have to have hobbies to help us maintain work/life balance. As head brewer, I brewed all the beer and soda water for the three Bluebird Creamery locations in the Seattle, WA area. Careful if you ask me about this. I can talk brewing for quite a while...

Program manager for Microsoft public training and certification programs. My focus was training and certification for Microsoft Windows operating systems. I expanded the training and certification programs to cover entry-level positions through architecture-level positions by creating the Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA) and Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) programs. Additionally, I updated the MCSE and MCSA certification programs for Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and Windows XP, and worked with CompTIA to align their A+, Network+, Server+. I-Network+, Security+ programs with Microsoft’s certification suite.

As a Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) courseware expert, I supported training and curriculum design for Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003, which was disseminated to 8 million IT professionals worldwide. During this time, I also facilitated the creation of CompTIA’s certification program. Internally, I participated in the change to a cloud adoption framework and transitioned the team to modern IT approaches while optimizing technical talent. Additionally, I authored an MSPress book and represented Microsoft as a speaker and presenter at TechEd events.

Hudlogic was a small consulting company providing consulting, and training creation and delivery for mid to large corporations. I delivered Microsoft Windows training as a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) through training centers, created and delivered custom courses for various corporations including Dell, Microsoft, Fluke and Systems Administration Networking and Security (SANS). Public speaker at technical conference and author of multiple books through multiple publishing companies.

I spent over 15 years in the high-tech industry in all IT / IS positions for startups and corporations, including McDonnell Douglas, General Dynamics, Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), Spectragraphics, and the U.S. Navy. I started my career in the US Navy, trained in basic electricity and engineering, as well as computer science. I worked on visual flight simulators and taught basic aerodynamics and acrobatics for entry-level jet pilots, as well as operated and maintained the systems used in flight simulation. I became AMRIP Class B certified in soldering and micro-miniature soldering and repaired broken circuitry that included repairing cracked and broken runs in multilayer computer boards. I held roles as individual contributor through manager of managers and executive, with a heavy focus on defense and manufacturing industries. Towards the end of this era of my career, I shifted to high tech hardware and software development companies.
