Designed the electronics of a collision sensor mounted on a waterjet cutting head. The electronics package included a CPU, collision sensor, a relay, power supply, etc. This system was packaged in a UHMW enclosure. Overall, there were severe environmental constraints.Refined the electronics, software and packaging of a high resolution distance sensor to fit on a waterjet cutting head. The electronics package included a CPU, distance sensor electronics and communication system to transmit distance and diagnostics data to the XY cutting system. This system was packaged in a custom molded polyurethane enclosure. Overall, there were severe environmental constraints. This project resulted in patent US 7331842 B2 Contour Follower for tool, which is the hardware / software portion of the electronics. This project also resulted in patent US 7803036 B2 Method of using a Contour Follower, which is the system including the electronics and the software portion in the XY cutting system.Designed the Profibus communications backbone of a new generation of XY cutting system and a large portion of the IO blocks that the Siemens motion control system used to control the external devices.

I worked on many projects with Analog Interface, often partnering with vendors or systems houses to fill out the requirements of the task. Most projects were electrical hardware & software (for instance hydraulic controls) and consisted of retrofits of old control systems or completely new machines. Some were prototypes, others complete redesigns.
