FounderPumpco Ltd Mar 2010 - PresentChippenham, Wiltshire, GbAndy has been involved in every aspect of setting up and running pumpco, from recruitment, nurturing company culture, setting policies, planning and strategy. Andy and an ASE colleague co-founded pumpco having grown frustrated with seeing how impossible it was to get the large incumbent Health Software organisations to embrace current and leading edge technologies.Andy’s prime responsibility is for delivering the pumpco technology known as the social co-operating system, it’s aim is to enable developers to rapidly deliver solutions using agile methodologies that connect, people, organisations, system and devices in a seamless way so that the can all co-operate, share information and interoperate. While originally envisaged to help with delivering health care, the platform has also had success in justice and is being actively pursued for social care and education.Andy balances a number of key roles at pumpco; that of product manager, technical architect and development manager. As product manager Andy understands the market, the company and it’s strategy, it’s customers and their requirements and the products, technologies and their capabilities; bridging technology, the business and the customers needs Andy is able to create a vision and roadmap for the product that satisfies all parties. With his technical hat on Andy is able to take this roadmap and produce an architectural vision across the full technology stack, conveying this back to the business and articulating it to the development team too. Finally with his project management hat on Andy can take this vision and turn it into actionable plans and lead the team in development and delivery. -

Consulting Technical ArchitectNhs Connecting For Health 2002 - Apr 2011Leeds, West Yorkshire, GbOne of a select group of Architects working on the initial architecture requirements for the NHS Spine. Developing the HL7 messages and the message implementation manual for the Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions used to transfer prescription information between, GPs, Pharmacies and the Prescription and Pricing Authority.Working as a Technical Architect to provide client side (NHS) assurance of suppliers solutions and implementation for the Choose and Book programme. Also responsible for the secure transfer data link of the Choose and Book data to the Secondary Usage Service (SUS) to support 18 Week Wait which is part of the NHS Constituation to gives patients the right to access services within maximum waiting times, or for the NHS to take all reasonable steps to offer a range of suitable alternative providers if this is not possible.Worked with Security Architects on the next generation of CfH Smart Card security to be rolled out across the NHS.Worked with the CfH Information Governance team and local NHS Staff to assure the Role Based Access & Legitimate Relationships controls within the iSoft Lorenzo Regional Care system were operating as specified.Andy was requested to assist the NHS Northwest London Information Sharing Board on providing them with an architecture for information sharing. What became apparent was that more upfront work was needed to gain clarity on the requirements and the strategy. Andy proactively developed a framework to achieve this, working with local CIOs and presenting his framework back to the board; which was met with positive agreement and was taken forward in the trusts engaged in the project. This role transformed from an initial assumption of being a technical role, into more of a strategic role bringing CIOs and the business up to speed on the foundation and approach that need to be laid before it’s possible to successfully implement information sharing. -
Technical ArchitectQuicksilva 2000 - 2007GbWhile working on the Connecting for Health (CFH) project for the Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions Andy identified a potential opportunity in developing a native HL7 message broker. Involved in the specification and initial architecture Andy then went on to complete his work within CfH while Quicksilva continued to develop the HL7 message broker that came to be known as Spinal Tap. Once complete Andy went back in the office working closely as Product Manager on the roadmap of Spinal Tap and company HL7 strategy in general as well as supporting the Sales and Marketing team and performing technical pre-sales. Andy was also heavily involved in continuing the development of the HL7 standard; as such he was an active member of the HL7 Executive Tooling Board, the message simplification initiative, the XML ITS forum, the Infrastructure forum and the Pharmacy forum amongst others, as well as being active in the CfH messaging forum and also healthcare within Intellect. -
Chief Technical ArchitectBook Club Associates 1999 - 2000Swindon, GbAndy was approached by a former Intel boss to set up a new development department within BCA to move them to an on-line presence. Andy joined BCA and brought with him a ready made team of 4 developers that he has worked with for a number of years across numerous projects. With his team Andy architected and built a combined e-commerce and content management solution based on IIS4/ASP, COM/MTS & SQL 6.5/Oracle8 using MS Visual Studio. The 100% custom platform allow online registration of new members, viewing of account information, a sophisticated shopping basket allowing the calculation of incentives and special offers from across the various book sites and calculating delivery charges and validating addresses via Quick Address integration.A web based content management system allows the Editors to build whole sites tailored to individual members ranging from the sections in a magazine, the titles within a section, the offer price, the incentive and the copy accompanying the title all from within a standard browser. Complex Logon system allows for the individual to consolidate multiple accounts to one logon and have the security system automatically log them onto each of their accounts. Dynamic personalised menu system allows each user to have individual options and functionality depending upon their roles e.g. Validated User, Non-Validated User, System Administrator etc. Andy was also responsible for developing the business and data access objects were used as the middle tier to act as a buffer when migrating from SQL 6.5 to Oracle. These objects are stateless and hosted within MTS for just-in-time activation and object pooling. With this custom platform the team were able to launch 32 bespoke book sites within a year (including full development of the platform itself). -
Technical ArchitectIntel 1995 - 1999Santa Clara, California, UsHaving established himself as a leader in the adoption and rollout of internet technologies Andy pioneered the development of Intel's first dynamic web application, creating a prototype site that proved that web technologies were now a viable tool to aid Intel’s customers’ business needs. This prototype caught the imagination of Senior Management and kick-started one of Intel Europe’s largest development efforts to support the sales departments in supply line management with Andy leading the way. Andy went on to help form the European Internet Development Group and became responsible for developing innovative web-based solutions for Intel’s business divisions and their key customers. Andy developed Intel’s first ASP application to evaluate the new technology. The system was a modular and highly configurable registration system, which enabled developers to register for Intel hosted summits and conferences, choose combinations of classes, book hotel rooms and supply dietary requirements. The first use of this service was for the inaugural Web Application Developers Summit held in Silicon Valleys Santa Clara, where Andy was invited to present and also receive an award for his outstanding contributions. As a result of his previous successes, Andy was asked to form a team for a major global project involving ‘chase the sun’ development efforts from around the world. Andy’s team developed a Secure Website to provide a Business Link to all Intel customers. Andy was involved in the initial stages of recruitment strategy through to architecting the data-model and dynamic code templates for worldwide use, to integrating the applications into a single massive e-commerce site, while also developing areas such as secure file transfer. Andy was also on hand in the US to oversee the final installation and stress testing stages and for the go-live.
