Andy is a conductor, composer, brass tutor and musicologist. His tutelage in conducting under leading figures within the orchestral and brass band styles has equipped him with a trademark level of deep research and analysis of the repertoire he conducts, which he uses in the pursuit of musical excellence with the ensembles he directs. His own compositional style, which has again been shaped by the tutelage of leading compositional figures, aims to push the boundaries of current brass band repertoire by writing exciting, emotive and thought-provoking music that combines modern electronic and acoustic music genres with the traditional band soundworld. Andy has a passion for music education and he has worked regularly with young people to help them develop their musical talents and discover their own love and appreciation of music. A deep interest and appreciation of the history of the brass band movement (and its wider social context) has driven Andy to gain an expert knowledge in this field and in doing so he has gained experience writing published papers, editorials, and reviews on the subject.
