First and foremost I love applying innovation & entrepreneurial thinking to solve challenging problems. It starts with a compelling problem . . .what will make the world a better place, you a better professional, your organization more successful . . .and then how can innovation/technology address this need. That is my mission . . & I give 110% until the job is done.Highly experienced executive leader with unique combination of expertise across public, private and not for profit sectors. Strong track record of applying innovation and entrepreneur approaches to deliver impact. Hands-on experience with large enterprises, numerous startups, municipal/public entities and a myriad of not for profit organizations. Adroit collaborator and proven community builder across diverse stakeholder groups focused on driving impact across Southern California. More recently I have turned my attention to community impact work - both as a public servant (elected official in City of Pasadena) and as a not for profit CEO focused on supporting SoCal startups and strengthening the regional innovation & start-up ecosystem. Initially as the co-founder & co-chairman of Innovate Pasadena (www.innovatepasadena.org) which is a grass-roots/community-based effort to enhance collaboration/activate the eco-system in Northeast Los Angeles. Since the beginning of 2018 I have been building and operating a more regional effort focused not for profit on elevating innovation, technology and entrepreneurship across the entire SoCal region: www.alliancesocal.org. I just completed 8 years on the Pasadena City Council (two as Vice Mayor). I chaired the Municipal Services Committee (the $300m/year water & power company) and served on the Finance as well as the Economic Development & Housing Committees of the Council. I have a particular passion for economic development (job creation) and finding solutions for homelessness. I served as Pasadena's representative on Arroyo-Verdugo Communities Joint Power Authority (JPA) working with Metro on regional transportation issues and work on LA County's Digital Divide task force. More recently I joined the Hollywood-Burbank Airport Authority as a Commissioner and chair the finance committee.Specialties: Innovation strategy/activation, ecosystem building, startups, tech transfer/IP commercialization, enterprise software, CRM, professional productivity, venture acceleration, BD, community engagement, economic development, coalition building, corporate partnering, urban planning, homelessness and mobility.
