I direct the regional initiative to create the Monadnock region as a trauma-informed community. I'm a department of one, so this has drawn on my skills in networking and relationship-building as I galvanize a cohort of regional agencies and individuals who support the TIC vision. I worked with a team to develop a strategy for addressing service gaps at a systems-change levels, which is now in the process of being implemented collaboratively, across sectors, throughout the 33 towns of the Greater Monadnock Public Health Network. I'm currently executing community-wide trauma education through trainings, a polyvocal social media campaign, and an online knowledge clearinghouse.

In a life that’s been nothing if not variable, writing has been my constant. I’ve freelanced for multiple magazines and publications around the US and Africa; been published in anthologies on travel, women's experiences, and grief; written novels; ghostwritten books; done copyediting and copywriting for individual and corporate clients on four continents. Nowadays I mostly freelance for private clients, especially real estate agents. I can judge how well I am based on how much I’m writing—it’s the thing I love most to do in all the world.

Ran the Recovery Friendly Workplace program throughout the greater Monadnock region, helping companies mitigate the impact of substance use in the workplace in order to protect their employees and their bottom line. Taking a nascent and largely unknown program, I networked across the region, developed context for recovery supportiveness in the workplace, demonstrated a clear value proposition, and supported area businesses to onboard the processes. My responsibilities were full-spectrum and included everything from identifying and enrolling companies to implementing the program through such means as developing targeted resources, conducting HR policy reviews, and delivering original training series—all bespoke services tailored to each company’s individual needs. I was widely praised for my ability to take heavy material and make it understandable and relevant while promoting safe and inclusive boundaries.

For five years I was an agent for the Economist magazine, managing adverts and classifieds originating from companies in East Africa. Working alone, I implemented all aspects of service: advert content, sales, accounting, advertising, marketing, customer relations, promotion, business networking, and knowledge management. Mostly this means I went on lots of sales calls (the Economist name opens doors!), managed adverts, and developed great diplomatic skills as I kept my African clients and British bosses from firing each other. This job was an amazing crash-course in corporate business and expanded my skillsets into areas I had never dreamed I could pursue--the great serendipity of my professional development.

During those tumultuous 20s I referenced above, I lived in a quarter of the U.S. states, supporting my writing habit with diverse jobs such as waitressing and hostessing at both high- and low-end restaurants, working as a barista, receptionist, cashier, personal care attendant, housecleaner, actress, entertainer, traveling marionette artist, and once managing an auto body shop. I developed extensive skills in customer care, conflict negotiation, communication, and relationship-building, as well as independence, self-starting, and management skills. Also, I was married for two years, which was one of my most educational experiences of all. Clearly, this was not a traditional career path, but I wouldn't trade it, and the tools I acquired continue to stand me in good stead to this day.
