Contentious questions that spring from environmental pressures on food production are sprawling. At the same time, science-backed policies seem to threaten the the social identities of many who take to the streets in harsh protests. Amidst this political climate, 'living labs' and other explicit 'real-life test sites', where scientists and publics meet, are proliferating. In my PhD, I scrutinise how knowledge production in these 'test sites' figures in view of associated controversies and public debate. In particular, I contextualise these observations amidst decades of science policies that aim(ed) at 'bringing science and society closer together'.

Ethnographic fieldwork to explore the issues emerging from the EU assumption of 'Science ‘with and for’ Society': through a case study of a regional research and innovation project funded by the European Commission, I give an account of the ontopolitical struggles that accompany the currents of democratisation in an attempt to illuminate aspects that impede science ‘in here’ to meet society‘ out there.

Project: Investigating a social controversy around a "Mobility Law" in Berlin that explicitly gives equal agency to motorised traffic, cyclists, public transport and pedestrians. Specifically, I show how imaginaries of the the automobile are closely linked to ideas of the German nation-state past WWII and how this imaginary becomes contested in this public debate from a wider social, cultural and political perspective.

Project: While the world closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many were forced to move the most basic everyday activities onto digital media and platforms. This caused a massive digitisation experiment globally. By using computational analysis of data traces and digital ethnography, we created an archive of this experiment for Denmark. Check it out on: www.deltagelsensgrammatik.itu.dk/english/- Another project that is underway currently traces the spread of fake news about COVID-19 on Twitter (especially conspiracy theories), maps out the (political) eco-chambers in which this information circulates and what impact fact-checkers have on this.
