I am currently finishing the last year of my PhD studies at ETH Zurich. The main focus of the project was to develop a source of cells with superior regenerative properties for cartilage defects to prevent post-traumatic osteoarthritis. I successfully managed to obtain a population of cells resistant to inflammation with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technique, that are immune privileged and thus promising for allogeneic therapies.

I spent a year at the University of Manchester, researching on Muscolar Dystrophies through induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) meanings. In this experience, where I conducted the research on my own project, I managed to obtain muscle fibres from iPSCs, both normal and with mutations to induce Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. To obtain the mutations, I learned how to perform gene editing with CRISPR/Cas9 technique during an exchange with Technische Universität of Dresden.

Visiting scientist to TU Dresden in the context of PluriMes European consortium for muscular diseases. I learned how to obtain gene edited induced pluripotent stem cells to mimic Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy common genetic mutations.

I worked in the University of Padova during my Master thesis project, and after the degree to continuethe project. It was based on reprogramming of human blood cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), both from healthy individuals and from parahaemophilic patients, in order to recreate in vitro a model of the disease through differentiation of iPSCs into megakaryocites.
