Football Equipment Manager
Wichita Falls, Texas, United States
Contacted MSU Athletic Department's Athletic Director to inquire about working for the Football Team, was directed to contact team's Head Coach. I expressed my desire to work with student-athletes and the university's football program. I also shared my experiences as a former student-athlete and that I understood that academics were a priority of every eligible athlete. I was informed that this was a non-paid position and my services would be strictly on a volunteer basis. The majority of my duties and responsibilities involved managing the day-to-day operations of the equipment, laundry, and locker rooms; calculating, recording, and managing inventory system control for team apparel, equipment, and supplies. I repaired and maintained football equipment, adjusted and altered protective gear for 120+ student-athletes. Set-up and break-down all home games traveled to away games. Assisted 13 coaches during pre-season and seasonal practices by conducting drills. Supervised and trained six student equipment managers. Provided athletic administrative support and assisted Head Coach on the field and sidelines, recording practice and game statistics for athletes. Maintained team and staff profiles, athlete roster. I performed my Equipment Manager duties while studying as a full-time undergrad student (4 years) and for the first semester of Graduate studies. I also worked several part-time jobs while working as a full-time EM. My greatest accomplishment was receiving 2 conference rings during my service to the team. The toughest experience was to watch one of my teammates become seriously injured with only a few minutes left in the game, his injuries were so severe, that he later succumbed to them and died, #24 Robert Gray. He will forever live in our hearts and he was my partner in motivating our team through victories and defeats.
