County Health Rankings and Roadmaps (CHR&R) Narrative Infrastructure team's work includes both internal implementation of narrative power across University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the external work through Narratives for Health, formerly Health Equity Narrative Infrastructure Project (HENIP), a collaboration between CHR&R and Human Impact Partners. Narratives for Health strives to build and activate a broad network of health equity advocates through raised consciousness around narrative and power. Within this project, the team centers hope and facilitates an adaptive and technical muscle-building process that gears people and organizations to understand how narratives are actionable and strategic, a form of power, and applied across mechanisms and sectors. This team also navigates the evolving field of narrative through implementation, evaluation, and research.

CANDLE, or Conditions Affecting Neurocognitive Development and Learning skills in Early childhood, examines biological, social, psychological, and environmental factors contributing the cognitive skills of children 0-3.● Work with a diverse group of investigators and team members to prepare and evaluate biological, social, psychological, and environmental factors contributing to early childhood development○ Manage and manipulate large and multiple source data sets ○ Provided statistical analysis for 5 grant proposals, 4 manuscripts for publication, and 5 oral presentations within the last year.● Coordinate and participate in conference calls and meetings● Streamline data cleaning and bio-repository improving efficiency by 30%○ Manage and coordinate staff to ensure quality data and integrity○ Train research staff on data collection, cleaning, and database use○ Manage biological specimen database, shipments, and workflow of lab personnel

Practicum● Developed and revised policy briefs for Shaping Kentucky’s Future: Obesity Prevention Policy Guide to provide recommendations on where Kentucky should go in decreasing its obesity rates and provide current policies in other states, and rationale for these recommendations○ Supplied current policies in other states, synthesized current data on obesity prevalence and prevention tools, and provided rationale for these recommendations● Identified assets and deficits in regards to the planning and implementation of the Early Childcare physical activity grant in KY as well as researching existing policies on this issue● Attended two conferences for professional development: Farm to School and Coordinated School Health

● Conducted qualitative and quantitative research and managed data for Dr. Linda Alexander and Tobacco Demonstration Project● Liaison among the three participating churches, subsequent church health facilitators, and the research team● Recruited participants for surveys and the yard sign/social marketing component of the project● Conducted focus groups and surveys on African American churches and their congregants’ use of the tobacco quit line and research on social marketing tools to promote the quit line● Presented findings at both KPHA and APHA conferences in 2010
