Angela Asuncion is a dynamic leader in the realm of just energy transitions, human rights advocacy, and transition mineral accountability. With over six years of dedicated experience, Angela champions a #JustTransformation within the climate and energy movement which focuses on the empowerment of climate-vulnerable communities in the Global South, particularly those impacted throughout the green energy and technology supply chain. Angela’s leadership has centred on ensuring that the extraction of transition minerals aligns with principles of equity, climate justice, and sustainable development.In her role as Lead Technical Consultant at Bantay Kita, the Philippines’ national coalition on mining accountability and community empowerment, Angela has spearheaded groundbreaking research initiatives at the intersection of climate, mining and energy policy and natural resource governance. Her efforts to advance climate equity are focused on accountable transition mineral mining that safeguards Indigenous Peoples' and local communities' rights, ensuring an equitable share of benefits in the green technology and renewable energy supply chain for a just, safe, and sustainable 1.5°C future by 2030 where no one gets left behind.As a Steering Committee Member and Consultant for the Asia Pacific Transition Mineral Accountability Working Group at Publish What You Pay (PWYP) International, Angela has played a pivotal role in advancing regional collaboration. She co-led the development of the Asia Pacific Regional Advocacy Plan, "Championing People and Planet-Centered Climate Justice in the Just Energy Transition," which has become a cornerstone of the group's strategic efforts. Additionally, Angela provided critical support in shaping and implementing six national advocacy plans on energy transitions and transition minerals across key countries, reinforcing the commitment to human rights, environmental protection, and equitable energy solutions across the region.
