Angela C. Bauer, Ph.D. is Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Texas Woman’s University. Previously, she served as Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Founding Dean of the Wanek School of Natural Sciences at High Point University. Dr. Bauer has over 15 years of higher education leadership experience at both private and public institutions, with a track record of accomplishments that demonstrates her strong commitment to the liberal arts, to evidence-based decision-making, and to inclusive leadership.Dr. Bauer received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and neuroscience from Lawrence University and her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Northwestern University. After conducting postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School, she rose through the ranks to full professor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (then the state’s flagship public liberal arts institution) as a faculty member of the Human Biology Program and the Environmental Science and Policy Graduate Program. During that time, she established a highly successful research program and served as principle investigator on grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the State of Wisconsin Groundwater Research and Monitoring Program. She later served as Chair of the Human Biology Program and Special Assistant to the Provost. Her successes in closing equity gaps in foundation science courses and in enhancing the number of underrepresented minority (URM) students majoring in the natural sciences at UW-Green Bay was recognized with the statewide University of Wisconsin System’s Board of Regents Diversity Award (Individual Category) in 2013.Dr. Bauer joined the HPU campus as Chair of Biology in 2013. As chair, she worked closely with the department to revise the curriculum, hire faculty from diverse backgrounds, and improve advising for students pursuing careers in the health professions. She played a pivotal role in establishing a new major in neuroscience, and collaborated with faculty to develop a novel classroom approach (Dual Domain Pedagogy) that closed or narrowed performance gaps between URM and majority students in foundation biology courses. For the leadership she provided to the Biology Department from 2013-2017, she was awarded HPU’s Extraordinary Leadership Award in August of 2018.
