Passionate about the power of the expressive arts to fuel imagination, spark creativity, enrich the curriculum and importantly nurture confidence and self-esteem. As a dynamic educator and innovator with over 30 years of teaching experience, I design and deliver expressive arts programmes across various educational settings. I am the founder of Drama Reimagined, an initiative offering professional learning opportunities and interactive workshops aimed at enhancing teaching and learning through drama and storytelling experiences. As an Education Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland, I teach on Integrated Arts and Communication programmes utilizing expressive arts as powerful tools for both expression and learning. I am committed to harnessing the power of drama, storytelling and art to cultivate confidence, communication, and creativity among children, students and educators.Introducing Drama Reimagined It's drama but not as you know it! Drama for the primary classroom not the stage. Professional learning for Primary teachers.Inspire children and drive learning forward using engaging and creative approaches. Discover how you can unlock drama’s potential for learning in your classroom. It might surprise you that as the facilitator of Drama Reimagined, I am not an actor or drama specialist. Indeed I never went to theatre school when I was younger or took part in school productions! However, as a primary teacher, I have seen first hand how drama can be used as a powerful teaching and learning tool to energize lessons, create interdisciplinary opportunities, and enhance learner engagement. Let’s go back in time (a long way back -1990!) to my first class Primary 7 who listened politely but didn't fully engage with the class novel – I felt disheartened and I knew I needed something to make the book come alive. Then at a party watching children play Musical Statues the frozen statues reminded me of a drama technique called freeze frame. The next day when children worked together to create a still image from a story something magical happened. I saw children being animated, enthusiastic, and eager to share their ideas. Drama transformed learning - Shy Sarah communicated confidently within the group. Struggling reader James enthusiastically described the characters in the story. Sophie, who rarely participated actively contributed ideas to her group. It was from this point that drama became my superpower within all types of lessons and classrooms.Drama Reimagined can empower teachers to harness drama's potential for teaching and learning.
