Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Development Center (BSECDC) has been “Rooted in the Community” since 1966. A federally funded head start program whose mission is to provide high quality, comprehensive early education and family engagement services to families and their children. BSECDC embraces a holistic strength-based approach to meet the needs of families in the Bedford Stuyvesant community.

Chief is a private network built to drive more women into positions of power and keep them there. Chief is the only organization specifically designed for senior women leaders to strengthen their leadership journey, cross-pollinate ideas across industries, and effect change from the top-down.

Lead administration and operations of extended day preschool organization serving 430 children aged 2-5 in 7 facilities with 125 staff and $8 million budget. Oversee day-to-day operations of all 7 centers, HR, IT, Facilities and Food Services departments, managing 7 Center Directors, Facilities Coordinator, HR Director, Food Service Director, and IT consultants. Manage operating budget and procurement. ● Functioned as staff leader during interim period following departure of Executive Director, liaising with Board of Directors. Served on Search Committee for Executive Director.● Managed mid-August reopening of 6 facilities in compliance with NYS and NYC guidelines, considering limits on number of children to be served and staff requests for reasonable accommodation. Planning for September opening of NYC DOE-funded facility. ● Rapidly implemented COVID-19 Health and Safety plan with all departments and Center Directors. Developed and managed food delivery program during COVID-19 closure.● Ensure safety and structural integrity of facilities, most in NYC Housing Authority buildings. Created reporting and tracking system to address facility concerns. ● Improved and professionalized food services while reducing food costs, by centralizing menu development and procurement for 3 meals a day served to all children. Collaborated with nutritionist to plan healthy food options. Sent all 10 cooks to school to learn how to cook healthier food.● Created and rolled out an HR department for 125 employees including all union members. Reduced turnover by 20%. Eliminated pay discrepancies. Designed and implemented a recruitment plan that attracted new talent, and performance evaluation program. Updated Personnel Manual.● Ensure that agency has appropriate technology from copiers to cell phones to email and platforms for fundraising and confidential records.● Built procurement department to monitor spending and reduce agency-wide expenses. Instituted e-procurement.

Led development and implementation of projects within the Office of Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives for the Cabinet’s Fund for Early Learning (FUEL) program to help children build the key cognitive, social and emotional skills they need to succeed in school and life. Funded by Robin Hood Foundation. ● Designed everyday readiness initiative for birth to 3-year-olds in the South Bronx and Brownsville in Brooklyn, defining the FUEL project scope, task, goals, schedules, timelines, and deliverables.● Created a tool kit that showed caregivers how to build language capacity and social-emotional skills, that was used with community groups in those neighborhoods working with caregivers and young children.● Engaged community businesses where caregivers and families congregated (e.g. laundromats, supermarkets, salons, barbershops, and nail salons) to give them tool kits for caregivers. ● Planned and curated borough-wide NYC Baby Showers for families to receive needed materials such as diapers and wipes, and learn about City resources.● Developed and implemented process for community groups to surface policy gaps for resolution at Cabinet.

Conceived, founded, and ran wine bar with a partner, in Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. Managed scheduling, payroll, training, and daily supervision of 15 employees.● Designed concept of a community gathering space; supplied all seed money and financing; applied for and secured liquor license within 8 months. ● Created welcoming, popular venue: located and oversaw gut renovation of space with indoor and outdoor seating completed in 2 months and with limited budget; hired knowledgeable architect and contractor; decided on limited menu to avoid building a kitchen; held grand opening block party.● Oversaw daily operations, generating up to $500,000 in annual sales with annual expenses of $150,000. ● Ensured profitability through careful cost control, budget management, and vendor negotiation. ● Grew clientele and customer base for wine bar by running social media marketing campaigns promoting new wines and spirits, including cross promotions with winemakers and wine vendors; focused campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Snapchat. ● Increased monthly revenue through in-house events, including themed “night out” events, collaborations with new and existing neighboring businesses, schools and community groups, and political fundraisers.● Expanded revenue by creating a rentable event space for Bed-Stuy community, “The Malcolm,” at the intersection of Malcolm X Boulevard and Lexington.

Created and ran nonprofit consulting organization that helped 9th graders in NYC public schools develop the social, emotional, and academic skills needed to succeed in high school. Clients included:● Bedford Academy: Enabled 150 9th graders to successfully transition from middle to high school. ● Benjamin Banneker HS: Supported 150 9th graders to successfully transition to and remain in high school.

School Social Worker (2001 – 2010) Counseled individual students and groups at 6 schools in Brooklyn (2008 – 2010).Provided individual and group counseling for 200+ at-risk and mandated students at JHS 258 in Brooklyn (2001 – 2008).

Counseled 80 at-risk and mandated students at Clara Barton High School in Brooklyn. Developed school-wide initiatives, mentoring programs, incentives, events, and workshops including the College and Career Readiness Program.
