Responsible for investigating all homicides, felony assaults, abductions and all death investigations that fall within the purview of the Medical Examiner. Medical Examiner cases include suicides, accidental deaths, unexplained or unexpected deaths and deaths which occur while the decedent is in a prison, jail or police custody.

Gun Trace Unit

Crime Gun Intelligence Investigator. Submitting trace request, which discloses the weapon’s identifying details, including its serial number, model, caliber, and manufacturer through ATF eTrace system to the National Tracing Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Conducting investigations to identify the custody of a firearm through the supply chain, from manufacturer to dealer to buyer. As an ATF Task Force Officer (TFO) ,for the Virginia Beach Police Department, I conduct joint criminal investigations with ATF agents and have direct access to ATF electronic and information resources, furthering our combined efforts and effectiveness to investigate crimes involving firearms.As a collateral duty, I am responsible for regulating pawnshops, collection, and entry of pawnshop records, administrative enforcement concerning licensing and operating procedures.

Cold Case Homicide Unit

Investigate homicide, rape and long term missing cases that were previously reported to VBPD and investigated, but which failed to result in the identification and arrest of a suspect and filing of criminal charges.With my transfer into this unit the unit became not only responsible for investigating cold case homicides but also the department's cold case rapes and long term missing persons. While assigned to this unit I was the police department’s National Missing and Unidentified (NamUs) Case Manager.

Special Victims Unit

Responsible for investigating all sexually related offenses and felony child abuse and neglect offenses. I was responsible for investigating the department's cold case rapes dating back into the 1970s

Missing Persons Unit

Responsible for investigating runaway children, missing adults, and parental abductions.I was also responsible for the department's Long Term Missing cases and was assigned at the NamUs Case Manager for the department.I had the opportunity to be coordinate the Virginia Beach Police Department's Missing & Unidentified Persons Conference. As a member we were responsible for planning all aspects of the conference, the selection of speakers and the overall success of the conference. As a result of this first year, the conference evolved and is in its fifth year.

Warrant & Fugitive Unit (Temp Position)

Responsible for executing civil mental custody orders, any felony and misdemeanor warrant, Circuit Court indictments, PB15 parole/probation violation papers, fugitive from justice warrants, capiases, magistrate summonses, and other related paperwork, issued by courts or magistrates. Warrants and/or court papers from within, or from outside the Commonwealth of Virginia, to include Governor's Warrants, are also executed by members of the Warrant/Fugitive Unit.

Diamond Head

Conducting communications checks of various warning System and radio circuits, coordinate immediate action by County Warning Points to activate warning sirens, coordinate and disseminate messages, bulletins, and advisories to government organizations and to the general public concerning natural and man-made hazards, answer telephone calls and provide information to the public and other agencies, perform other related duties as directed.
