I love to learn. Even more, I love to watch others learn. I have given 28 years of my professional life to the development of others. I started off finding joy in teaching six-year-olds to read. A memory that will forever be with me is when Katelyn, from my first class, yelled out, "I can read. I can read." I told her, of course, she could read. She corrected me, saying, "No. I read a real book all by myself." That moment, along with others, hooked me and has been my driving force in bettering myself so I can support others in finding their way to personal fulfillment.I pursued my doctorate and focused my research on culturally responsive teaching to understand why students and teachers are successful in the classroom and where others are not. I found that students and teachers need to be seen and valued. They need to know they belong and that the organization is better because of them. I love being part of the journal of having adult learners hone their craft and reap the benefits in their classroom. When teachers are happy, students are so glad, too. When adults believe that success is obtainable and are committed to the task, their students grow academically, and their personal beliefs about themselves become a driving force in their personal development.I thrive around people who are focused on the mission and vision. I can push through the distractions and stay the course. I enjoy a pause to think things through and welcome others' perspectives. Diversity brings color and growth. Diversity and variance bring joy to the workplace.
