I strive to address inequality and poverty by developing policy solutions and political strategies to combat inequities in social services, education, housing, employment, and taxation/wealth. My current role is a policy and budgetary analyst and advisor to both houses of the California State Legislature, focused on human services and governance issues. Prior to this pursuit, I was a program manager for an international organization focused on democracy & governance. In this position, I had technical training/coaching responsibilities as well as project and staff management responsibilities for multi-million dollar US government-funded programs aimed at strengthening civic participation and democratic institutions in the Middle East and North Africa. I was based in Washington, DC with frequent travel to the region, and eventually transitioned full-time to Tunisia. While based in DC, I wrote grant proposals and donor reports, managed program monitoring and evaluation, oversaw program finances and budgets, and managed teams. While working in Tunisia, I managed all aspects of a civil society capacity building program, including providing training and technical assistance to civil society organizations to develop political process monitoring and advocacy strategies and plans. My personal activism and volunteerism has focused on women's leadership and empowerment, racial equity and social justice, and youth engagement.
