Established in 2016, CATALOG is revolutionizing and leading in DNA storage & computing.As IP Strategy Manager, I am managing highly active and valuable patent portfolio of 150+ US and international filings in DNA writing, printing, reading, & computing, covering hardware, software, and molecular technologies. I keep a close pulse on all the existing and developing intellectual properties including patents, trade secrets, and trademark, and shape the portfolio according to the business directions. This involves cross-disciplinary communication among different roles including the R&D and BD teams; lateral management of senior leadership, including 8 director level positions and higher; & close collaboration with 3 C-level executives. Alongside working with diverse internal & external stakeholders, I also assist in drafting, negotiating, reviewing various types of agreements including Consulting Agreements, Nondisclosure Agreements, OEM/Supply Agreements, Memorandum of Understanding with both domestic and international entities and personnels; shape company policies and processes, provide training and guidance in IP, licensing, negotiation, & business. In addition to developing soft skills including management & leadership skills, I continuously expand my knowledge in IP, technology, and business, as we prepare for our fundraising & commercialization efforts.

Dong-A ST, a South Korean biotechnology company with a rich history spanning 90 years and a workforce of over 1600 employees, embarked on a global expansion initiative in January 2023. As part of this expansion, I had the opportunity of help establishing the Open Innovations team in the newly launched U.S. branch located in Cambridge, MA. Working in a streamlined and agile team, I worked closely with the company's senior leadership, including the CSO, SVP of Open Innovations, SVP of Investment, Head of Research Strategy, and VP of the Research Department.My main duties revolved around the identification of assets, technologies, and potential business prospects for both financial and scientific investments. This encompassed evaluating opportunities for licensing academic technologies, establishing research collaborations with academic institutions, forging partnerships with startups, considering M&A with companies at various developmental stages, participating in series A investment rounds for startups, and presenting findings to the HQ after conducting thorough due diligence. I attended over 20 workshops and conferences including BIO US, maintained and broadened my network within and beyond the Cambridge biotech ecosystem.Additionally, I created Confidential Intelligence (CI) database for all assets in our pipeline (>10), provided feedback on Sponsored Research Agreement drafts. Furthermore, to develop gene therapy strategy for HQ, I created market report, analyzed competitive landscape, and created a CI database (>250 companies).

Worked closely with the licensing officers to draft licenses (tangible property, patent, exclusive, non-exclusive, options, MOUs, NDAs, JIA/IIAs, MEAs, and term sheets), negotiated with stakeholders (CEO, CBO, corporate attorneys), assessed patentability and commercial value of disclosed inventions, built and managed relationship with inventors, managed PIs' portfolios (intellectual properties, licensing rights and field of use), interacted with students and MIT community in various events, talks, and office hours.Specialized in tangible property and material evaluation agreement - dealt with many HHMI cases and was the point person for the Jackson Laboratory. Streamlined the express tangible property license process and helped execute over 20+ licenses and generate $2.5M in revenue in less than a year.

Reviewed patent applications, drafted marketing briefs as known as tech briefs, built competitive landscape, performed product comparison for ready-to-license technologies, searched for potential licensees, and met with the inventors. Also built competitive landscape for MIT TLO, performed SWOT and social media competitive analysis on competitors, defined KPI and SMART goals for MIT TLO website. Built rare disease landscape, performed secondary research on a given disease area, assessed competitive landscape for a given disease area, provided internal product assessment based on scientific merit. Helped Dr. Wen Xue move to U Mass Medical as he transitioned from postdoc in Dr. Tyler Jacks lab to an Assistant Professor. Was both a Research Associate and acting lab manager in the lab. Have published a number of papers including a first co-author paper. Delivered a talk in the CRISPR seminar. Responsibilities as a Research Associate: maintain mouse colony and genotype database, supervise technical personnel and students, train new lab members, provide guidance in lab techniques, identify methodological problems in research protocols and assist in implementing modifications to optimize experimental results, and lead my own project.Responsibilities as a lab manager: order lab equipments, edit grant applications, advise PI of short and long term needs for the lab and identify possible solutions and alternatives, oversee day to day operations of the lab including ensuring adequate stock of lab supplies, oversee maintenance of lab equipments, act as liaison between lab and host safety and regulatory offices to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, assist with job searches for technical and postdoctoral staff positions, prepare animal experimentation protocols and biosafety protocols to ensure that work of the lab is covered by all regulations, and work collaboratively with other lab managers from neighboring labs on issues such as purchasing and sharing lab equipments

Worked with liver cancer mouse models using CRISPR/Cas9 system. Obtained technical skills including but not limited to maxiprep, miniprep, genotyping, organizing mouse colony, Western Blotting, PCR, synthesizing sgRNAs, running Surveryor assays, test digesting plasmids with restriction enzymes, running electrophoresis gels (agarose and PAGE), dissecting mice, IHC, IF, and making competent cells. Learned to time manage and run multiple assays in parallel.Delivered a 15 min CRISPR related talk within a month of working here.

Lead the SALTs project, which was funded by the Bill Gates Foundation.Focused on developing multi-vitamin fortified salts to tackle malnutrition in developing countries. Closely worked with an undergraduate to find a commercialized polymer that can withstand cooking conditions and only release the vitamins in the stomach.

Worked on 3 different projects in R&D department to study how OFPMA, a patented molecule incorporated in all their hair products, works on hair.Designed experiments, optimized methods, and collected data that were presented with analysis twice each week. Presented results and findings to the entire company's management team at the end of the 10th week.

Binding studies of ApoE to Lipidoid-NanoparticlesStudied the role and kinetics of ApoE proteins in lipid based gene delivery. Learned to work in a laboratory as a team.

High-throughput Screening of Reducible Cationic Polymers for Gene DeliveryScreened library of polymers to observe what class of polymers best work as vehicles for gene delivery. Aimed to eliminate the use of excipients which cause toxicity in the system.Experienced working with HeLa cells, performing Dual Glo assays, synthesizing polymers, and analyzing gene knockout data.

Moleculary Self-Assembled Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles for Targeted In Vivo siRNA DeliveryUnder advisorship of now Assistant Prof. Hyukjin Lee (Ewha University), we invented a novel method that excludes the usage of polymers or lipids as vehicles for gene delivery.
