As an RtI instructional aide at MHS, I provided instructional supports customized to meet the learning and behavior needs of individual students in grades 9-12 by assisting teachers in the English classroom and tutoring students one-on-one in an alternate setting. In addition, I was responsible for analyzing student data to create effective interventions plans, conferencing with Spanish-speaking parents on student needs and progress, and assisting with various meetings as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking families. I was in charge of tutoring students in the English MLC and recruiting candidates who would benefit from one-on-one help in English.I was invited to participate in the Extended School Year program during the summer of 2016 as an SLP instructional aide. This was one of my most rewarding experiences yet, as I was able to work with a population of students I had not had the opportunity to work with in the past. I was able to facilitate learning for students by providing support on reading and mathematics skills and work one-on-one with students with disabilities on academic and social activities that offered real-world experience.I was hired for the following school year as an English and Academic Literacy teacher at MHS to cover a full-year maternity leave position. In this position, I was responsible for planning and implementing lessons for English/Honors English I and Academic Literacy, monitoring student progress and collaborating with other teachers.Afternoons and weekends were spent working with chronically-ill students as a homebound tutor during the 2016-2017 school year as well. I tutored these students in English, Social Studies, and Spanish and served as liason for students and teachers.As Poetry Club sponsor, I organized and led weekly meetings to coach students on works of poetry and performance pieces, introducing members to a variety of types of poetry, and connecting with community members to showcase student work at open mic events.

During my time at Schurz, I have taught Freshman English, Freshman Honors English, Sophomore English, and Junior English. My experience working within the Chicago Public Schools has been invaluable, as it has provided me with the opportunity to work with inner-city students in a very diverse school setting.I work with a student population that is primarily Hispanic; many students identify as English language learners (ELL), and I am happy to be working with this group as part of my regular education classes and put my ESL endorsement to good use. I am very excited about the work I have been doing with Loyola University's Language Matters program as part of a Schurz teacher leader team that is currently working on a common unit plan for the school that implements specific ELL objectives to foster learning and maximize student potential as part of the general education curriculum!In addition to working with ELLs, I have had the pleasure of working with multiple inclusion teachers in a co-taught classroom setting and collaborate with English course team colleagues on developing a Common Core State Standards-based curriculum (CCSS). Teaching at Schurz has helped me grow as an educator, mentor, and colleague, and I am grateful for each and every experience and the professional relationships that have developed over the last three years.

I tutor students in grades 6 to 12, as well as college-level and adult students in English. I work with each student on a customized plan of instruction based on their individual needs in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Private tutoring in students' homes allows for me to work with them in a comfortable setting that decreases anxiety and allows for one-on-one interactions to maximize their learning potential and helps them achieve their personal and professional goals.

At Grayslake North, I have taught Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Regular English, and Sophomore Honors English. I started as a permanent substitute from February 2011 until the end of the school year in May of 2011. I was rehired for the following school year as a part time English teacher, during which I served as a collaborative member of the Sophomore Regular and Sophomore Honors team that contributed to curriculum work pertaining to each team. I coached the freshman/sophomore academic team, worked as a volunteer member of the Conexiones bilingual parent outreach program, served as an interpreter for parents and translated school documents, especially as they related to parent services such as PowerSchool. In addition, I worked various school dances as a chaperone and athletic events.
