As a veteran, former Federal Prosecutor and senior executive with 30+ years of management success, I provide strategic leadership as President and CEO of United Way Worldwide, the world's oldest privately funded nonprofit organization. In 95% of U.S. communities and 40 countries and territories, United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. With global reach and local impact, we’re making life better for 48 million people annually. That’s why we’re the mission of choice for 2.5 million volunteers, 7.7 million donors and 45,000 corporate partners in some 1,200 communities. In the wake of COVID-19, we’re helping people stay in their homes, stock their pantries, and protect their lives and livelihoods. And we’re working to build resilient, equitable communities. My career started as an active duty member of the military for more than six years, I was an Air Force Judge Advocate General who served in Desert Storm. From there, I became an Assistant United States Attorney and eventually one of six federal prosecutors on the Department of Justice’s National Church Arson Task Force – appointed to investigate the rash of black churches being burned across the country. My journey also includes senior roles at YMCA USA where I had oversight of a $130M mixed-use development project in Jerusalem, Israel, the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund where I oversaw $25M in grants, Sears Holdings, and the Senate Judiciary Committee. Mission-driven work that impacts people drives me daily. That’s why the art of combining leadership and advocacy is so powerful. I learned at an early age the value of service to affect change in the lives of people who are disenfranchised and understood what it means to be treated differently, not seen as equal. I’ve built my career by setting a vision, implementing strategy and motivating diverse individuals to do meaningful, long-lasting work. My spirit of community and supporting others dates to my childhood. In fact, watching my parents passionately advocate for civil rights taught me to tirelessly advance change to improve communities and the world across many disciplines: To join me on this journey, call or email me today, (703) 683-7882 or Angela.Williams@uww.unitedway.org.
