Freelance Literary Critic | Amazon Vine Reviewer
I'm an avid reader who's always looking for new authors. I found that reading reviews on Amazon was a great way to find new books. After some time, I started writing my own reviews. Other Amazon shoppers found my reviews to be helpful, which resulted in Amazon inviting me into their Vine program. At one time, I was ranked as a top reviewer on Amazon, regularly placing in the 1600 range (out of a rank of over 18 million reviewers.) I am contacted daily by authors who want to send me their books for free in return for an honest review on both Amazon and GoodReads. I've been lucky enough to form some great professional relationships with my new favorite authors and receive ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) from them for review. I'm also contacted by innovators who would like to have me review a product that they sell. From the Amazon website:Amazon Vine™ invites the most trusted reviewers on Amazon to post opinions about new and pre-release items to help their fellow customers make informed purchase decisions. Amazon invites customers to become Vine Voices based on their reviewer rank, which is a reflection of the quality and helpfulness of their reviews as judged by other Amazon customers. Amazon provides Vine members with free products that have been submitted to the program by participating vendors. Vine reviews are the independent opinions of the Vine Voices. The vendor cannot influence, modify or edit the reviews. Amazon does not modify or edit Vine reviews, as long as they comply with our posting guidelines. A Vine review is identified with the green stripe Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program. You can see my Amazon reviews via the RSS feed below.

Cardinal Health has a large training and instructional design function. I was hired in to an existing position to facilitate training for the end users of the Financial Accounting SAP system. This training was strictly systems-based. I took the existing training materials and redesigned facilitator guides with scripts so that anyone could walk in and teach the courses. I created participant guides that featured step-by-step instructions as well as screenshots, which enabled them to be used as references. Cardinal also uses a system called uPerform, which records your actions on the computer and generates simulations for systems training. It also organizes the information into work instructions. I created ten of these for the Bankruptcy group, who was just ramping up to the SAP system.
Instructional Designer
Created eLearning courses using Wendy’s training methodology for management-level employees. Designed visual training aids (VTAs) and product build cards for use in Wendy’s restaurants. Assisted with identification of competency levels and behaviors for each restaurant position. Mapped training to Wendy’s competencies to ensure that training programs met the needs of positions. Collaborated with field training personnel to identify training gaps. Managed projects assigned to external vendors performing eLearning development functions. Participated in restaurant training, including rollout of new image activation. • Developed and implemented 3-Phase Training, a 10-week training course, for new restaurant managers.• Designed, developed and implemented management training courses using blended learning approach of instructor-led, in-store and eLearning training solutions.• Collaborated with Voice of the Customer program leaders to design and implement training.• Tools used included Articulate Studio, SumTotal LMS, Adobe Connect, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Excel, TechSmith Snagit.Because there are over 6000 Wendy’s locations, the instructor-led classes and leader-led on-the-job activities would need to be facilitated by regional trainers and training store managers, so there was a lot of Train-the-Trainer involved. Wendy’s training model is a version of the Tell-Show-Do-Apply model, so the new manager would shadow a manager first and then be observed doing the job. Besides learning about labor, waste management and forecasting, activities led new managers through the Johari Window model, problem solving, giving and receiving feedback, and more. I also worked on several eLearning courses. Wendy’s used Articulate for the development of the courses, which were then deployed through the SumTotal LMS.
Founder And Executive Director
After blogging for four years and learning about blogging conferences such as BlogHer, I decided to start my own blogging association. I wanted to engage with other bloggers and develop best practices. I started the Ohio Blogging Association and became its Executive Director. Through networking, I engaged Cleveland bloggers as well as Columbus bloggers to fill out leadership positions in the group. As I blogged less and less, I turned the association over to my Cleveland president. It is still thriving today. From the Facebook page:The Ohio Blogging Association serves the Ohio bloggers in many capacities. We provide events for networking opportunities. We also demonstrate best practices as well as provide advice on many parts of blogging, such as platforms and marketing. We are a non-profit and are supportive of local businesses. We are looking for volunteer opportunities.
Corporate Trainer | Instructional Designer | Lms Administrator
WWR is a creditor’s rights law firm providing legal representation and collection services. • Conceived, designed, and implemented the continuing education program known as WWR University.• Designed and facilitated interpersonal skills classes focused on employee development of Emotional Intelligence. • Administrator for Element K LMS.• Met with partners, attorneys, managers, and supervisors to ensure effectiveness of training programs.• Facilitated new hire orientation.• Attended professional conferences.• Traveled 75% of the time.At the time that I started there, the corporate trainers assisted with employee onboarding and taught some Microsoft Office courses. They developed courses as the firm needed them. The partners at WWR realized that it was time to focus on more than just systems training. What they needed was a training program to address interpersonal skills. Based on the principles of Emotional Intelligence, Weltman University was born. The four of us in the Corporate Training department took on the instructional design of over 40 courses in three months. The majority of these courses were instructor-led, as there were restrictions as to what programs the call center associates could have on their computers due to the sensitive nature of the client’s content. Each course was delivered in 90 minutes. They covered topics such as Listening Skills, Getting Things Done (based on David Allen's landmark book), Personal Career Development, Emotional Intelligence, Communications Skills, Customer Service, Time Management, and Coaching. I developed many eLearning courses at WWR. The eLearning courses were developed and deployed through our LMS, Element K. I partnered with our compliance partner attorney as a SME for the content. Because the call center associates could not have sound or flash on their computers, the finished courses were similar to what Articulate produces.
Manager Of Training & Quality
Pacer International is a leading provider of freight transportation and logistics solutions.* Designed, developed and implemented departmental classes.* Identified department training needs and requirements.* Facilitated new hire orientation.* Maintained departmental documentation according to ISO 9000 procedures.* Performed internal audits.* Managed day to day activities of a team.* Met with customers and vendors.* Attended professional conferences.During my first six years, I was again called on to mentor new hires in my department. I developed my own training materials, including exercises. During that time, the company went through the process to achieve ISO 9000 certification. I assisted by developing a process and procedures manual for my department, with work instructions and process maps. In 2001, my department was large enough that a dedicated training position became possible. I was asked to take that position and given carte blanche to create a training program that would onboard new hires as well as identify and prepare those ready to be promoted. Over time, the departmental trainers were consolidated under the umbrella of HR. The trainers took over much of the employee onboarding process from HR, including sessions about the company structure, general logistics, and systems training. In addition to this training, I took over the majority of the Microsoft Office training, including three levels of MS Word, three levels of MS Excel, and two levels of MS PowerPoint. This was the only training purchased from an outside vendor (Element K.) I also facilitated our Hazardous Materials and Process Mapping classes. I was the only trainer who was also a Quality Manager. I was responsible for creating and maintaining hundreds of departmental documents that detailed out our processes and procedures. I also performed internal audits, including random sampling, to ensure we were at a state of constant readiness for external audits.
Customer Service Representative | Assisted With Training New Hires | Sme
After graduating from Capital University, I decided to take at least a year off before attending graduate school to continue my study of music. I started out working for Limited Credit Services (now Limited Brands) as a customer service representative. Limited actually had a full-time trainer, but that position was utilized for formal classes rather than on-the-job training. After I had been in my position for a couple of months, my supervisor saw something in me that convinced him that new hires should shadow me to learn the job. As I was promoted quickly in a very short time, I continued to mentor new hires. I began pulling screen shots and copying other materials to use for examples. My letters to customers were used as a standard for other customer service representatives.
