I am passionate about literacy. I have worked for over 37 years in education in classrooms, seminars, college classes and in-services to learn and teach what works best with the "tough to teach" both with the students and with their teachers. I know that active engagement and a fast paced "bell to bell" lessons can raise student achievement. My work continues to be with schools who are looking to improve their "problem of practice" with the ultimate of professional development--which is site -based coaching. Currently, I am in projects that are building their full RTI implementations with "instructional rounds," active engagement strategies, Unit Organizers, and "bell to bell" instruction--as they work to design and implement the Common Core State Standards--my work consists of the ELA Standards k-12. I view the Common Core Standards as "gold" in the shift to focus on college and career ready skills for all levels of students.
