I mentor startups in Silicon Valley and around the world on the investor pitch – how to write it so it makes sense, is compelling & clear and how to deliver it so it’s impactful for investors [and potential customers]. For 20 years, I’ve worked with international entrepreneurs on how to structure & write decks so that anyone can understand them quickly while not being bored to tears. One way is through storytelling. But unlike a presentation, the pitch only has room for 20-second stories. But a few practiced, polished short stories can make the difference.To help international entrepreneurs feel more comfortable developing their initial pitch, we brainstorm it in their own languages - Portuguese, Spanish, French and German - and then, if presenting to US VCs, we switch to English to ensure they can give the final version in English comfortably and convincingly. I’ve worked with Spanish, Brazilian, French, Israeli, Argentinian, Chilean, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, etc. entrepreneurs and what I discovered amazed me: they are all remarkably similar -full of passion & eager to change the world. I’m a Venture Partner at SV LATAM Capital where initially, as their Entrepreneur Evangelist, I scouted out promising startups in the areas of AI, robotics, biotechnology, food tech, diagnostic and health services - related to or taking place in Latin America.
