I wrote "arthur" when my kindergarten teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. In the years since I learned to spell the word correctly, I've worked as a journalist for an acclaimed city newspaper, a freelance magazine writer, and a content marketer for small businesses. Finally I found my way back to "author."I write ferocious love stories. My first book in my high-heat, small town, Latinx series, After Hours on Milagro Street, was named a Top 10 romance of the 2000s in The New York Times, a Top 10 romance of 2022 by The Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Library Journal, an A+ review in Entertainment Weekly, and was named an Amazon Best Book of the Month. The second book, Full Moon Over Freedom, was named a Top 10 romance of 2023 by The Washington Post, received starred reviews from Library Journal and Booklist, and won an AudioFile Earphones Award.

I conceptualized the digital strategy for Gantz Family Vineyards, including developing and launching GantzFamilyVineyards.com, when they first planted their vines in 2012. I also developed all the website content, including writing an initial set of blog posts, and refreshed the website design, moving it from WordPress to Squarespace and improving its mobile-device presentation, in 2015. I also created and cultivated an online presence that introduced them to the winegrowing community of the Russian River Valley through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. The success of our social media efforts led to the owner's election to the local winegrower's board of directors in 2014.

I created editorial content for a variety of Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publications including: “Outdoor Casual,” “Garden, Deck & Landscape,” “Garden Ideas & Outdoor Living,” and “Landscape Solutions." I interviewed families, landscape architects, and landscapers to capture colorful details for vivid articles and concise captions. I provided fun, detail-oriented descriptions of home and garden products.

I was responsible for primary coverage of West Des Moines, IA, Des Moines’ largest suburb with a population of 46,000 in 2000; I worked with school board, city council, police and citizens to insure accurate, well-rounded coverage. I was responsible for primary coverage of three southern suburbs of Des Moines and the south side of Des Moines; I wrote front page story about the birth of the McCaughey septuplets, born in Carlisle, IA, which is currently featured in the News History Gallery of The Newseum in Washington, D.C.
