As the Senior Programme Manager for Uganda, I technically supervise and support partners in implementing Johanniter’s programmes in Uganda particularly in the areas of Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Health and Nutrition, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and WASH. My role extends to assessing and evaluating activities to ensure programme quality, performance, and compliance with organizational guidelines, supporting fundraising, representation and external relations. Influencing country and regional programme strategy with pivotal role in the development of the health component of the 2023-2025 regional strategy for Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia while serving as member of the Health and Nutrition Strategy Technical Working group (TWG) and the MEAL Technical Working Group (TWG). Supporting refugee programming through technical and supervisory support to national partners in implementing Sanitation, Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), MHPSS and Gender Based Violence (GBV) projects in various settlements and host districts.Managing four project staff and multi-million-euro partner budgets Leading the launch of new integrated programme on Maternal Health, Livelihood and MHPSS in collaboration with national partners and the inclusion of climate-adaptive strategies in programming.Positioned Johanniter as a key partner in Uganda’s WASH landscape by facilitating membership to the Uganda Water and Sanitation Network (UWASNET) to pave the way for a $3M WASH project.Formulated the inaugural partnership strategy that paved the way for recruitment and onboarding of two new partners, and built new partnerships through engagement in Humanitarian International Non-Governmental Organizations (HINGO) Forum.Strengthened partner capacity through training, compliance review, and performance monitoring. Secured millions of euros in funding from various donors to support Health, Nutrition, MHPSS and Livelihoods projects.

Uganda

I oversaw the implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the ECHO-funded, epidemic disease surveillance and response and life-saving health services for newly arrived refugees and vulnerable host community members across 19 districts and 10 refugee settlements in Uganda. I also took lead in communication and coordination with the consortium partner to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery, managed staff and budgets, and developed strategic partnerships. Pivotal in the provision of comprehensive, emergency, primary health care services which encompassed Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), MHPSS and Nutrition.Co-authored the 2022 DG ECHO HIV, COVID 19-response, and Ebola Virus disease proposals that helped generate millions of euros in donor funding from ECHO. Helped build robust epidemic preparedness systems and plans in 17 districts by developing 12 epidemic contingency-plans, training local government officials, and providing medical supplies.Rolled out the first cash voucher assistance program to boost nutrition programming efforts, successfully reducing cases of malnutrition in 600 women of reproductive age and children under five in the refugee settlements of Palabek and Lamwo.Enhanced programme quality and performance capitalizing on training of 17 partner staff in developing monitoring tools, on project monitoring and reporting in 17 districts, partnership review meetings, joint monitoring visits, spot checks, and data quality audits.Championed knowledge management and cross-learning opportunities such as staff training, partnership meetings, and joint support supervision in 10 refugee settlements.Elevated organizational profile while serving as representation at meetings with the Ministry of Health, Office of the Prime Minister, donors, UN organizations (UNHCR), local authorities, and multi-sector stakeholders.

Kenya

I conducted an end-of-programme evaluation of the Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative (REPSSI) across six countries in Eastern and Southern Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

South Sudan

I contributed to the development of the country strategy, oversaw all Johanniter programme implementation in Western Bahr-el-Ghazal, identified new programmes, built partnerships with national, international and local partner organizations, and supervised national and expatriate staff.Co-developed the Nutrition, Health, WASH, Food Security and Protection mainstreaming components of the 2020-2025 South Sudan country strategyLed implementation of programs on WASH, Nutrition and Food Security, Health, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Jur River, Wau County, and Western Bahr-el-Ghazal.Catalyzed millions of euros in donor funding from GFFO following successful proposal development with the Head of Mission and program staff.Developed M&E systems and frameworks (surveys, log frames, M&E indicators) in collaboration with the Monitoring and evaluation Department.Facilitated the recruitment and training of 73 programme staff.Reviewed and revamped the organizational organogram, developed job descriptions, and supported organizational restructuring.Represented the organization at stakeholder and cluster meetings and at humanitarian coordination forums.Worked closely with the Finance Team and the Global Support Unit on budget forecasting, financial reporting, cash management, and audit compliance.

South Sudan And Uganda

I took charge of project management and coordination activities in Uganda and South Sudan as outlined in the proposals, log frames and work plans - providing leadership and technical oversight of projects funded by GFFO, BMZ and the Foundation in Innovative Diagnostics (FIND).Participated in the development of the 2016-2020 Neglected Tropical Diseases Strategic Plan in Juba, South Sudan.Coordinated nutrition screening and supplementary feeding for 3,000 project beneficiaries in Yei, South Sudan, which included pregnant and lactating mothers, children under five, and persons living with HIV (PLHIV).Developed proposals for Integrated Food Security, Nutrition & Livelihoods, WASH, and emergency humanitarian assistance interventions in Yei, generating funding from BZM and AA for the projects.Facilitating inter-sectoral integration of a sleeping sickness control project into primary healthcare in collaboration with the National Ministry of Health, State and County Health Departments of Eastern, Western and Central Equatoria States of South Sudan.Conducted awareness creation on sleeping sickness as part of the Sleeping Sickness Transboundary Project, which resulted in the treatment of 1.1 million South Sudanese refugees in the North West Nile region of Uganda in partnership with Uganda’s Ministry of Health.Co-developed a KAP Survey to assess behaviour change within sleeping sickness-endemic communities and regions, which informed the formulation of the national Human African Trypanosomiasis communication strategies in South Sudan and Uganda.Represented Malteser International at stakeholder meetings across Africa, at EANNET Scientific Meetings in Chad, Uganda, and Guinea, and at WHO stakeholder meetings in Geneva.

Nairobi(Langata/Embakasi

My role involved managing CDC-funded projects on HIV/AIDS and TB prevention, care and treatment across 12 health facilities in Embakasi Constituency.Coordinated the provision of integrated health services and supported the establishment of 12 Comprehensive Care Centres (CCC) that served up to 10,000 PLHIV.Built public-private partnerships between private and public health facilities to scale access to ARV drugs and commodities, laboratory and diagnostic testing, viral load, TB GeneXpert and PCR testing.Developed winning proposals that helped secure additional grants from CDC. Guided and supported community health volunteers in setting up breastfeeding and HIV support groups and provided technical expertise in commodity management.Piloted community mobilization and outreaches on TB and HIV and took part in stakeholder forums on HIV/AIDS, TB, PMTCT, Nutrition and Reproductive Health (RH).Supervised staff and trained 200 health care workers and resource persons on HIV, TB, cervical cancer screening and nutrition.Recruited 12 mentor mothers, 12 peer educators, 60 community health workers and 12 clinicians to facilitate project delivery.

Lagdera, Kenya

I provided overall management, leadership, and technical support in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health and nutrition projects implemented in six facilities and 15 outreach sites in Lagdera District in partnership with District Health Management Teams (DHMTs), and ensured the integration of child protection into programming.Implemented community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), immunization and health education interventions.Empowered 50 health facility staff through training and mentoring on nutrition, child health diagnosis and management, and delivered trainings to health care workers on IMAM, infant and young child feeding (IYCF) and integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI).Coordinated supplementary feeding programs for 700 households in collaboration with UNICEF and WFP and ensured availability of nutritional supplements, health commodities, and medical supplies in supported facilities.

I provided technical support in the management of HIV/AIDs and TB projects, ensuring adequate, sustained, and consistent support to staff and project partners. Pivotal in the implementation of APHIA II TB, HIV and nutrition project activities funded by the Global Fund and implemented across five public and mission hospitals in the informal settlements of Nairobi. Launched integrated TB/HIV and nutrition services in supported facilities and facilitated the training of more than 1,000 health care workers and community health workers on TB and HIV management.Managed defaulter tracing of more than 5,000 PLHIV through home visits and enrolled them for care in facilities.
