Angelo Candalepas graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney in 1992. In 1994, in the first months of practice, he won an International Architecture Competition for Housing for “The Point”, Pyrmont. The project was the recipient of numerous awards and since then Angelo has won and been shortlisted on several national and international competitions.Angelo established Angelo Candalepas and Associates in 1999 and since then the company has won a significant number of awards, including the Australian Institute of Architects Sulman Medal for Public Architecture in 2009 and 2018. In 2019, he was made Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects.Most recently, the firm, under Angelo’s leadership won a significant competition for The National Gallery of Victoria Contemporary a major part of a $1.7 billion arts initiative of the Victorian government and Australia’s largest gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design.The firm’s work has been published globally in prestigious journals, magazines, and four international books.
