Undergraduate Research Assistant, Dr. Wei-Chun Chin Lab
Research under Dr. Wei-Chun Chin that revolves around biosensors, microfluidic devices, histamine secretion using nanoparticles, and Calcium Influx.Skill set:-Prototyped a graphene biosensor for Coccidioidomycosis and tested the resistance change through antibody-antigen interactions with an electrochemical analyzer. -Analyzed how TiO2 nanoparticles negatively affect airway mucus secretion and how CeO2 minimizes it. The affects of TiO2 and CeO2 nanoparticles was observed through ELISA, and [Ca2+]c, mitochondrial damage, ROS production, cck assays. Utilized and cultivated BEAS-2B cells for this experiment. -Analyses of V2O5 and coated rock dust with dynamic light scattering to measure nanoparticle aggregate size.- UC Merced EHS training courses: biosafety, fire, lab hazmat spill response, laser, radiation, bloodborne pathogen, and waste management safety.-Experience in SDS-PAGE, PCR, ELLA, ELISA, cell culture experience (i.e. passenging, culturing), graphene synthesis, fluorescent microscopy, and Dynamic Light Scattering. -Medium fabrication for Diatoms, and BEAS2B and 8459 cell lines. - lab safety and protocols- time management
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Performed research on aggregation and degradation of dispersants and oil by microbial exopolymers. I am part of the undergraduate team that uses dynamic light scattering to characterize various nanoparticles, and fluorescent microscopy involving diatoms that are introduced to nanoparticles, and various chemicals like WAF, CWAF, and Corexit so that they release extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). Studied the affects of these chemicals through [Ca2+]c measurement.Skill set:- Diatom culturing- Dynamic laser scattering used to investigate the impact of oil and dispersants on marine microbial community- Analysis of WAF, CWAF, Corexit and various nanoparticles on Diatoms for the release of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS).Researcher list:http://www.tamug.edu/addomex/people/undergraduate_students.htmlResearcher page:http://research.gulfresearchinitiative.org/gomri-funded-researchers/person/?pid=4280Co-author of a poster presented by Dr. Meng-Hsuen Chiu at:Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill & Ecosystem Science Conference 2017, New Orleans
Ucsf Benioff Children'S Hospital Oakland, Chori Internship
Undergraduate research under Dr. Beate Illek for Children's Hospital of Oakland Research Institute. This internship revolved around using Ussing chambers to test various drug treatments on CFBEo cells with a ΔF508 mutation. Experimented with normal bronchial cells, cfbe (cystic fibrosis bronchial epithelia), and cfbe cells pre-treated VX-809 and VX-661. The Cl current of the cells were measured and tested using Amiloride, Forskolin, VX-770, Inh-172, and ATP (to make sure the cells are still alive). Skill set:- Ussing chamber usage and maintenance - Sigma plot basics
Teaching Lead
Teaching lead for after school STEM Classes at Peterson and Tenaya Elementary in Merced. Led in various engineering projects from making egg carts, and bridges to test structural integrity or rockets to test design.
Engineering Student Assistant
Teaching assistant for Ballico Elementary school. Made biodomes with an Arduino that used an MQ-135 sensor and alarm system (LED and Buzzer) to measure CO2 levels.
Hardware Team
Part of the hardware team for making an educationally viable CT scanner. Aided in putting together the wiring and base of the scanner and used Solidworks to 3d print vital parts.Skill set:- Solidworks- 3D Printing-Soldering- Arduino - Teamwork
