Dr. Angelo Viola received his MSc degree in Medicinal Chemistry at the end of 2009 at University of Bologna. After few months from his degree, he joined the group of Prof. Giuliana Cardillo at the University of Bologna (C.I.N.M.P.I.S. research grant) for one year taking care in design and synthesis of beta-amino-dehydro derivatives as potential integrin ligands. In 2014, he received his PhD in Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Alessandra Tolomelli, at the University of Bologna, discussing a thesis on alkylidene malonates and acetoacetates as intermediates for the preparation of bioactive molecules. During the PhD period abroad he spent 3 months in the group of Prof. Luc Brunsveld at the University of Eindhoven (TU/e), Netherlands, working on the synthesis of fluorescent amphiphilic nanoparticles achieved through Suzuki-cross coupling reaction. After the end of his PhD he remained in the group of Dr. Alessandra Tolomelli for a post-doctoral fellowship in the STRATUS project (ERC ADVANCED GRANT) in collaboration with Prof. Marco Garavelli (University of Bologna) and Giulio Cerullo (University of Milano) focusing his main research on structure and dynamics of biomolecules by two-dimensional ultraviolet spectroscopy basing his activities on the synthesis of peptides. In September 2015 he started a new post-doctoral fellow at University of Bologna in collaboration with Fresenius Kabi Anti-Infectives dealing with Identification and characterization of organic compounds such as typical impurities in the synthesis of APIs. In January 2016 he joined the company Fresenius Kabi Anti-Infectives as Research Assistant in Villadose (RO) interesting in synthesis of penicillin and cephalosporin impurities present in the synthesis of APIs. Since January 2017, in the same company, he’s working in the peptide project taking care of synthesis of several commercial peptides as APIs. From September 2019 he’s the Head of the Upstream Development in the I&D Peptides Lab managing several Peptide projects and organizing the people who work with him including several collaborations with Universities and external companies in Italy and abroad. Among his job activities, a large part of them is connected to the collaboration with the Production unit about the processes transfer from the Research lab.From June 2021 he joined to Suanfarma Italia as a R&D Manager focalising his activities about new Route of Synthesis from scratch into the R&D lab to commercial scale for production plant.
