Hi! My name is Angel Lin and I’m a writer, researcher, and artist from Seattle. I was a first-generation college student involved in vital campus advocacy efforts at Santa Clara University: I helped to procure basic needs access during the Covid-19 pandemic, drafted anti-racist student safety policy reforms, and proposed an interdisciplinary Disability Studies minor. My advocacy work led me to develop a research interest in culturally competent healthcare systems for immigrant communities. That's what made me so excited to work at the Santa Clara County Vietnamese American Service Center in San Jose, California and then, later, conduct research on racial identity policies in Paris, France. I graduated as Valedictorian of my class in 2023. I went on to work as a behavioral therapist for young kids on the autism spectrum throughout Oakland. In my role at APIs Mobilize, I’ve been working with Asian American high school students across California; I get to teach a curriculum of civic engagement, leadership development, and Ethnic Studies. It’s been an absolute delight scratching my itch for teaching and being in the classroom this summer.My experience in culturally competent and data-driven advocacy informs my current work in regulating algorithmic bias. I know the profound and vital role that data can play in racial justice initiatives. As the Technology Equity Fellow at the Greenlining Institute, I've been working on developing strategic policies surrounding the AI systems impacting communities of color across the country—from loan application approvals to receiving public assistance.Looking forward to learning, chatting, and connecting!
