Technical manager for a lead Irish vegetable grower. Working along side the production and farm manager, my job involves assisting with technical work around the farm and production facility to ensure the site is audit ready at all time and the highest standards are maintained. My role ranges from, ensuring audit readiness, complying with the highest standard, data collection, conducting yearly soil samples, yield monitoring, crop protection, precision planting of root crops. This role is a highly diverse role that is ever changing and involves having to improvise and come up with solutions to problems fast while also being able to move quickly from a field role to being able to find and identify issues with crops in the Packhouse. Fyffes international graduate management program, working for Highline mushrooms in Canada. As the head grower on there largest of their five farms in Langley BC. I was managing team of 15 people, filled 7 rooms per week growing on a 28 day two flush cycle. targeting growing 200,000lbs per week, across 30 growing rooms. I over saw the filling of rooms, growing of crops and hygiene of the farm as a hole. I graduated from Cork Institute of Technology, with a master in business. The topic of my thesis was the profitability of direct drilling corps in Ireland to reduce cost and increase farm incomes. I completed my undergraduate courses in Cork where I graduated from Cork Institute of Technology with an Honours degree in Agriculture. The main modules that I studied were: Strategic Finance for Agribusiness, Agribusiness Innovation, Regulatory Affairs and Compliance, Science of Food & Healthcare, Food Processes, Agribusiness Supply Chains and Final year project - Research/Implementation. Outside of college, I have done a lot of traveling working on a wide range of different farms with different techniques of farming. Spending two years in Canada, six months in Australia, five months in New Zealand and six years in England as a summer student on a large tillage farm doing the harvest, during this time I progressed to trainee farm manager. Working with the farm owner and manger to make up a harvest plan, run one of the farms harvest crews, grain store management as well as recruiting summer students.I am very interested in new farming techniques and technology's in tillage, mushrooms, vegetables and other area of agriculture and this is what has driven me to travel to see how farming is done else where in the world.My interest is in the production of different crops here in Ireland and around the world.
