Problem solving is what I live for.I love the whole process, from outlining the problem, drafting a solution, acquiring new necessary skills, all the way through maintenance. Fortunately, during my career in the Navy, I had leadership that appreciated this passion, and listened to my pleas to create a custom in-house personnel management solution to replace the giant spreadsheet used to track hundreds of data points about thousands of Sailors. Passing around that monstrosity was slowing down everyone's day substantially, so it was easy to get people enthusiastic for a more modern solution.From there, along with my partner through the whole thing, Daniel Atwood, I took the idea to completion. We gathered requirements directly from the stakeholders in charge of the various aspects of the command that were soon to be automated. We designed the DB, the RESTful API, and the SPA front end. We learned more about proper design and development along the way than we ever could have otherwise. All of this happened because our leadership let us take ownership of the problem and solution, and trusted us to handle all the little problems along the way. And we did.I would love the chance to offer that zeal to another company, and re-prove what I did in my Navy career: There are no problems, only opportunities.
