In my time at Atlas I have gained practical experience working in challenging conditions having worked aboard a naval asset as part of a science trial. My work involved leading the scientific analysis of the data collected under this and other trials. As a technology demonstrator this involved developing and budgeting an analysis procedure and getting this agreed with stakeholders within the business. I was involved in the presentation of the outputs from this analysis to the customer.My work within military oceanography and environmental exploitation has been recognised and I am a capability lead within the company. I am also the technical lead on several ongoing projects.Through my role as an engineering manager for several projects I have experience in managing stakeholders needs, whether that is the technical team, the customer or the business. I am responsible for the delivery of a valuable multi-year program which, through communications with the project manager, I ensure sticks to timescales and budget. This involves managing the taskings of the 5-8 person team to maintain effective working and to minimise bottlenecks. I enjoy working on progressing these novel lower TRL solutions to a more mature state as it allows more innovative ‘out of the box’ thinking.

My time as a graduate taught me the skills required to be a valued member of my team within Signatures. Alongside my standard work I participated in the AEUK Graduate Scheme, which involved numerous training courses and a graduate team project, managed exclusively those on the scheme. I was exposed to multiple areas of the business ranging from bid writing to scientific research, analysis and report writing. Some tasks required independence while others required daily stand up’s amongst my team to maintain consistency between critical components. Other notable points include;• Experience interfacing with hardware and conducting data collection• Represented the company in various customer and stakeholder meetings• Creating and streamlining processes for the department and writing documentation to ensure easy adherence• Responsible for management of 20-30 person office • Mentoring new team members

Assisted research fellow and lecturer at the University of Southampton for 2 months.I performed literature reviews and collected satellite and numerical data for upcoming papers.I gained practical fieldwork experience in a true working environment with flume deployments in Christchurch Harbour.Learned how to perform several important sediment analysis techniques in the labs including laser fine analysis and sediment sieving.

I was promoted to Senior Crew where additional responsibilities included leading a small team of people on sites to complete jobs which developed my management and motivation techniques.Additionally I was trusted with the teaching of skills to new team members.

I worked for the Stunning Tents Company for 4 months in the summer after my first year of university. I was then requested back for the following 2 summers.I worked in various sizes of teams to construct tents for large and small events in all weathers.This job taught me the value of teamwork but has also gave me the ability to carry out tasks independently without being overseen.With no prior experience, my skills of learning and adapting quickly were tested but I succeeded in becoming a valued member of the team.This job was very full on, I worked 5-6 days a week, starting at base at 06:30 with an average length of day being around 10-12 hours.

After showing my abilities as a teaching assistant, I was selected by my employer to gain a Level One Teaching Qualification, allowing me to teach my own group of children in the pool.As a trusted employee I was also selected to go on a NPLQ lifeguard course to become a fully qualified lifeguard.As a swim teacher and lifeguard I was responsible for the planning, preparation and delivery of lessons as well as the safety for everyone in the pool environment.I independently planned and taught my lessons but worked as a team to solve any problems to ensure quality teaching was always given whilst maintaining a safe environment.I was the point of contact for the parents if any issues or problems arose so as a result I learnt to present myself professionally in all situations.I further built upon my ability to interact with children I had developed as a teaching assistant, as a result my communication skills are excellent and I am able to change my approach to problems to get the best outcome.
