Angus McAngus has a broad law practice spanning over thirteen years. The majority of his work is in his specialist fields of public law, human rights and humanitarian law. As the Lead Attorney for Gender Concerns Awareness Initiative, an Abuja-based not-for-profit organization, he has frequently engaged women, men, and youth in thoughtful discussions about gender in their communities and spearheaded the building of skills and provision of resources to promote gender equality and female empowerment. He has undertaken several litigations on human rights matters and was selected by the federal Attorney-General as a participant in a country-wide prison decongestion program in the course of which he secured the release of unlawfully-held inmates while ensuring that deserving cases went to speedy trials. A human rights lawyer and social crusader, he has on many occasions been a guest discussant on public interest issues on the African Independent Television (AIT) flagship magazine program, Democratic Licence. A self-directed law reform advocate, he has been involved in the tracking of bills that impact on human rights and gender issues at the National Assembly (Nigeria’s federal parliament) and has participated in several workshops on law reform organized by the Nigerian Law Reform Commission. He is skilled in human rights advocacy and legal research/documentation and is able to work effectively in a cross-cultural setting. Angus holds an LL.B degree from the Abia State University, Uturu, where he graduated the best overall law student, and a BL from the Nigerian Law School, Abuja. He has completed a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree program at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and awaits the award.
