As a Software Development Engineer (SDE) at Amazon Web Services, I was on one of the software teams which build the AWS Health product (health.aws.amazon.com). I used a number of internal tools whose external AWS equivalents include EC2, CodePipeline, CodeDeploy and Systems Manager. Since Amazon teams ‘dogfood’ our own external products, I also have experience with several of these, including Lambda, CloudWatch, IAM, CloudFormation / CDK, CloudFront and S3.I gained a working knowledge of the part of the service owned by my team and contributed to code repositories spanning five languages – Java, JS, Typescript, Ruby and an internal declarative infrastructure-as-code language – and at least three frameworks: Apache/Spring, CDK, React and various testing frameworks. I’ve carried out every step of the software development lifecycle – that is, requirement gathering, design, project planning, implementation, testing, documentation, monitoring, operations and deprecation – although not all for the same component. I was also part of the team’s on-call rotation and have responded to and mitigated impact for customer-impacting alarms.
