About Anibal Mendes

I am a Faculty Member at the Federal University of ABC - UFABC. Previously, I was a Research Fellow at the Monash University and IFM - Deakin University. I hold a PhD and MSc in Materials Science and Engineering from Federal University of Sao Carlos - UFSCar and a BSc in Physics also from UFSCar. My research aims at improving the properties of metallic materials by new nanostructuring techniques based on severe plastic deformation. These nanostructuring techniques are comparatively simple, and we work towards discovering possible ways of making materials more functional for a variety of purposes. Lighter, stronger metals are sought after in the automotive and aviation industries, as well as in biomedicine. Our search for enhancements extends from pure metals to alloys and to new hybrids that incorporate often dissimilar materials, such as metals and polymers.

Multilayered bimetallic composites produced by Asymmetric Accumulative Roll BondingThe present work is part of a major project called “Innovative Design of Multicomponent Materials Using Severe Plastic Deformation Methods”. Three innovative components of this project should be highlighted as fundamental research and will be a major scientific contribution to the fundamental knowledge, they are:- Manipulation of the properties of multicomponent materials by changing the shape, length scale and geometrical pattern of their constituents;- Understanding of the physical mechanisms of low temperature diffusion bonding of dissimilar metals with simultaneous grain refinement under severe plastic deformation;- Development of a model for constitutive behavior of multicomponent materials with interface layers, to be incorporated into novel FE code.
