Key responsibilities;• Leading the indirect tax function in the Perth and Adelaide markets• Working cohesively with a national team of specialists to deliver technical GST and indirect tax advisory services• Advising and managing clients on a broad spectrum of indirect tax issues including; o GST reviews, including those undertaken as preparation for ATO GST Streamlined Assurance Reviews and Information Systems Risk Assessments o ATO activities including early engagement, enquiries, reviews and audits o Advising clients on different structures and the consequent GST and stamp duty implications, to arrive at the optimum structure from a GST, income tax and stamp duty perspective. o GST adjustments (e.g. change in creditable purpose) o Defence of GST technical positions in conjunction with legal counsel o GST Private rulings o Working with corporate finance and income tax colleagues in conducting and delivering indirect tax due diligence reviews o Sale and purchase of businesses through asset and sale agreements o Business commencement and conclusion o Property development and margin scheme, including the consideration of partnerships, joint ventures and trust structures o GST withholding at settlement o Financial supplies and consideration of the Financial Acquisitions Threshold o Domestic, cross border and international transactions o Implementation of the VAT in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia o International shipping o Exports and imports o Cost saving initiatives such as fuel tax credit reviews o Accurate reporting of IAS and BAS o Eligibility for ABN, TFN and GST registrations o Eligibility for GST grouping and the advantages and disadvantages of entering into an Indirect Tax Sharing Agreement• Design and deliver GST and indirect tax training to clients and Grant Thornton’s National Indirect Tax Team.
