Three years back I ventured into startups.I built & launched SproutingNation, a career mentorship blog & platform for graduates. Alongside, I used YouTube, Instagram, Quora, FB(Meta), and Twitter(X), to spread the word. But I couldn’t scale my career platform. I made blunders. I shut SproutingNation after two years. That's the story of my first failure.I started again by stacking up on that base. Managing everything solo taught me a lot about content creation and social networks. So, this time, I chose to build digital services and products. I took lessons in copywriting, marketing, and sales. I started writing on Medium & LinkedIn to build a personal brand. I built expertise in both - LinkedIn & Medium.Then, alongside freelance writing, I joined a tech startup. I was the first hire and designated as Business Development Lead. One interesting incident I remember was when it rained cats and dogs the previous day and the first two floors were filled with water. The laborers lived there. When Ranjit sir saw the unhygienic situation that got created on the ground floor, he himself took the broom and wiper and cleaned the entire floor!That day, I witness what it means to be a proactive leader.Apart from technical skills, I learned people management from Ranjit sir. As a project manager, he was handling 2 sites.Both running before time and with utmost quality. His aura and the way he talked with people enabled him to get things done without he leaving his cabin!During my 1 month at VJ, I learned the importance of team work. The site team was accountable to the office team and the 3rd party quality rating agency. This made the process smooth.VJ had a policy to allocate floor wise funds. This prevented the firm from cost escalation.It was indeed a holistic experience of working at a construction site. Show less
