I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Surgery, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, and my research focuses on blood damage under high shear stress in mechanical circulatory support devices. I primarily focus on high shear-induced platelet and neutrophil activation, receptor shedding, and morphological change during flow through blood-contacting medical devices. I have a strong background in solid and fluid mechanics, with specific training and expertise in developing computational methods for multiphase flow, emulsions of particles and cells, and fluid-solid interaction (FSI) problems. During my Ph.D., I numerically investigated droplet deformation, pair interactions, pair trajectories, orientation, and lateral movement in different flow conditions. This research focused on deepening the fundamental understanding of droplet dynamics in an emulsion and its effect on the overall flow behavior (rheology). In addition, I developed a computational fluid dynamics code that simulates a rigid body deforming a soft viscoelastic solid in a liquid environment, which is prevalent in many industrial, biological, and natural systems, e.g., industrial slurry flow, sediment transport in rivers, blood cell interaction with heart valves, etc. This development allowed for an in-depth investigation of the different viscoelastic properties affecting the deformation of the solid and the forces exerted by the fluid. Many of my research have been published in the top peer-reviewed scientific journals and accepted for presentation in multiple scientific conferences.

Graduate Research AssistantThe George Washington University Aug 2018 - May 2024Washington, D.C., Us- Developed and validated new features in the existing MPI-based in-house fluid flow solver in Fortran to study the hydrodynamic effect in the indenter-probe-based force spectroscopy method to characterize the properties of biological samples in a fluid environment. New features included Viscoelastic solid and immersed boundary.- Conducted numerical simulations with the developed code to study the hydrodynamic interactions between a rigid sphere and a viscoelastic solid in a fluid environment during an AFM experiment and calculated hydrodynamic force between nearly contacting bodies.- Performed numerical simulations in COMSOL to study hydrodynamic force between a cantilever probe-based system and a viscoelastic sample in a fluid environment.- Studied deformation, migration, and interaction between drops suspended in a viscoelastic fluid under shear and extensional flow, which helped to learn the behavior of deformable particles and their trajectories in different flow conditions.- Conducted numerical simulations in the in-house solver to study the diffusion of particles suspended in a viscoelastic fluid under shear flow, which shows the reduction in particle spreading due to fluid viscoelasticity.- Processed data using Python, Matlab, and Tecplot for visualization. -
