o Plantations being labor intensive require skills-set to manage large workforce, negotiate with unions linked to political parties and manage yields that vary seasonally.o As assitant manger of a plantation on of Tata Tea (then known as James Finlay & Co, and subsequently Tata-Finlay ) drove yields and annual productivity gains. o Achieved growth in yields and productivity that surpassed previous records for properties worked. In my third year achieved the highest yield per acre ever achieved in the history of the company. This was made possible by timely appilcation of fertilizers, motivating the workforce to work longer hours voluntarily, coordinating efficiently the ancillary support to move crops from field to factory long past normal work hours while ensuring quality was retained.o Tea crop though perenniel, has seasonal spikes that last several months and account for a large percentage of the annual yield, and so need to be managed efficiently. To ensure that peak seasons were managed well, had to plan for adequate manpower, ensure long work hours and manage timely harvesting of crop. All of these required strong negotiation and motivationing skills, complex planning, coordination and flawless execution.o Acquired skills to be firm and sensitive to worker aspirations in negotiations and yet manage company expectations and deliver yields that were record high.
