Each week had several high-ranking elected officials as keynote speakers ranging from members from Congress, Senate, Mayors, and Councilmembers. Proposed legislative ideas to help address the issues faced by San Mateo County by -1) Researching and identifying the critical issues faced by San Mateo County.2) Researching other states and counties with similar issues and solutions. The legislative ideas were shared on a weekly basis with the group of interns and if selected were presented to Chair of the Board of Supervisors, David Canepa. During the internship program, my proposal for addressing the homelessness crisis via increasing the number of Homeless Shelters and Treatment Facilities while better preparing Law Enforcement to handle situations arising from mental illness by incorporating a group of EMTs and crisis intervention workers skilled at de-escalating situations was selected to be presented to the Supervisor.
