Most importantly, I ensured that these efforts are publicized and communicated to the attendees by informing them through website and dashboard. Another important aspect to my role is assisting the research and the data collection for the sustainability report for the stakeholders. As one of the 18 resident adivsors at Scripps who served as the liaisons between students, maintenance & grounds department, and administration, I helped ensure a safe and supportive living environment for 80 residents by mediating any disputes between residents, assisting in facility management issues, and taking appropriate action during unexpected emergencies. I organized more than 15 community, health, diversity, and academic programs on a limited budget of $75 per semester. I received a grant from Scripps College to be involved in non-profit work in Kathmandu Nepal. One of the work I ended up doing is helping out in the office of a school/home for children who are affected by HIV/AIDS. I helped out with translating formal documents, brochures, and other publications into English so that it could be shared with its diverse Board and other supporters. It is also a home for the students, where a care-mother is there to assist those with special needs and to ensure that they all maintain a healthy lifestyle that all children should be able to have. The majority of my classes middle-age, working women who never received a formal education before. Many are illiterate in both English and Nepali. I had to be creative with my methodology and communication skills in teaching English effectively and enjoyably in order to overcome the language barrier since I do not speak a common language with my students. It was a challenge, but the results were encouraging. I was very proud in clear and steady improvement among my students regarding their skill and their confidence in mastering the language.
