Athena is a sub-program of WiSTEM (Women in STEM) which aims to connect minority and underprivileged female students with mentors in a STEM field to guide them and encourage them to pursue STEM studies after school. Camp Talaria is a Summer program during which students have to brainstorm, research, develop, conduct, and document a scientific research project in 4 weeks, under the supervision of their mentor. The program aims to expose them to the entire process of academic scientific research, after which they have to submit a complete research report and present their work. It is the responsibility of the mentor/supervisor to guide them through the process, ensure that they learn about the process of research, provide feedback and support on the writing of a proper proposal and report, and give encouragement. Camp Talaria was conducted virtually in 2020 and mentors met with their students via video conferencing on a regular basis.

2015-2019: Master's degree (part-time) in Space Studies at UCT SpaceLab. Space Science dissertation in conjunction with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) on the topic of Ionospheric Scintillation in the SAMA region using GPS data. 2014: Completed an Honours degree in Astrophysics and Space Science at UCT. Subjects studied: - Astrophysics (General Astrophysics, Stellar Evolution, Galaxies), - Observational Techniques (Optical & Infrared, Radio), - Spectroscopy, - Computational Methods (Python-based), - Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, - Electrodynamics, - Relativity (Special, General)My Honours Project was done in collaboration with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) under the supervision of Dr Pierre Cilliers, and was entitled "Sudden Storm Commencements as Drivers of Geomagnetically Induced Currents in the South African Power Network."

My graduate program was transferred to Internet Solutions to work on a project for IS similar to the work done for DD: Process documentation and analysis of billing across all systems and business units at IS. I also proposed the order in which automation projects should be undertaken for maximum effect. I was then offered a permanent position at IS as a Business Analyst.

I joined Dimension Data's CBITS (Centre for Business Innovation and Technology Solutions) division Graduate Program in 2009. My primary research was into Client Experience Management methodologies and the proposal of practical implementation methods for improving CEM at DD. My secondary project was to build a system to analyse the client order management system to produce useful statistics for process improvement initiatives. I also attended numerous training courses ranging from ITIL Foundation to Presentation Skills and Project Management.

The South African National Technology Olympiad is run by the South African Institute of Mechanical Engineers (SAIMechE). It is a yearly national challenge for teams of high-school students which focuses on the application of science, math and engineering principles. Scholars are provided with a problem statement and a detailed set of parameters and rules. They must design, build and demonstrate a device which performs the specific task addressed in the problem statement, while remaining within the design, operation, construction, materials and financial constraints.I served as a workshop facilitator for 3 years and as a judge at the regional and national contests in the 4th year. As a facilitator I travelled to schools to conduct intensive 3-hour workshops with scholars. I taught basic engineering principles, demonstrated essential scientific concepts such as friction, momentum and mechanical advantage using pulleys and answered/clarified all questions students may have around the rules and constraints of the contest. In the 4th year I assisted in the development of the challenge and performed judging and evaluations at the 2009 regional and national competitions. In 2011 I returned to the National Challenge as a Guest Speaker at the Awards ceremony.

Part-time student work while studying. Assisted the IT Service Desk in various quality control measures (satisfaction surveys and expired/outstanding support ticket closures) as well as administered the IP Telephony Accounts requests. Fulfilled this role as and when needed over a 5 year period.

Worked as Student Intern at PBMR during University breaks (Dec07-Jan08 and Dec08-Jan09) to gain practical work experience. Also worked with PBMR throughout my 2008 University year (Jan08-Nov08) on my Thesis: "Charting and analysis of turbine maintenance procedures for increased safety in a nuclear power plant".

Worked at Aerosud during 2 summer University breaks (Dec05-Jan06 & Dec06-Jan07). First year was dedicated to modelling the production system of their Sheet Metal factory and optimising the physical layout and processes to improve performance. Proposed factory layout was accepted and implemented in a physical re-organisation of the entire production facility. Second year involved more detailed work studies in specific production areas of the business to model procedures in an effort to identify bottlenecks and increase productivity, as well as assisting resident engineers in a maintenance and recalibration exercise of the oven thermocouples.
