I graduated Cum Laude and with departmental honors from Christopher Newport University in spring of 2024 with a B.S. in Cellular, Molecular, & Physiological Biology and a double minor in Psychology and Leadership Studies. During my undergraduate career I was a member of the Honors Program and President's Leadership Program, which allowed me to refine and broaden my perspectives through the expansive and dynamic opportunities I had the privilege to partake in. I further developed relevant critical thinking, teaching, and interpersonal skills during my time as a research assistant under university faculty, in which I contributed to developing a uniquely regulated plasmid for use as a laboratory education aid and positive control for gene expression studies. My senior thesis focused on Demographic Disparities in Epigenetic Risk Factors Exacerbating Cycles of Oppression.As a staunch advocate for improving public genetic literacy, genetics public policy, and epigenetic health equity, I put my values into action by anchoring my desire to make a difference in meaningful community service. I have volunteered in a diverse array of service opportunities including as a Crisis Counselor, Youth Group Counselor, Planned Parenthood Ambassador, and Student Tutor. I have also shadowed multiple certified Genetic Counselors in the prenatal, pediatric, and cancer specialties at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Children's Hospital of the King's Daughter, and Virginia Oncology Associates. The latter prepared me to pursue my M.S in Genetic Counseling at Kean University beginning in the fall of 2024. While putting myself through school I worked as a server at several restaurants, using my five years of experience in the food service industry to master communication, conflict mediation, and time management expertise that effectively equips me for success in any endeavor.
