I am a Master's student in Symbolic Systems with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering, specializing in NLP/computational linguistics. My long-term goals are to apply computational approaches to language in education, law, the humanities, and the social sciences, as well as to build safe, trustworthy AI systems.In the immediate future, I am looking to be part of a fast-paced, highly collaborative team as a research scientist/research engineer, applied scientist, ML/AI/NLP/Prompt engineer, or a software developer in AI/ML. My experience lies mainly in NLP, but also broadly includes elements of Spoken Language Processing, ML, DL, HCI, and AI Safety. My experiences with leadership, teaching, organization, and research make me a valuable team member and a dedicated independent worker. I am committed to advancing science, creative and collaborative thinking, and integrating ethics with technological development from the get-go. I also have significant writing experience in academia, creative writing, and student journalism.Additionally, I am the founder of the Fair, Responsible, Ethical Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Society (FREDA), which was started as an informal initiative to introduce students to research and development for social good, primarily through mentorship and reading groups. Machine Learning Research InternLexitas Dec 2021 - Jun 2022As a machine learning research intern, I conducted research and development on a dynamic multi-level clustering algorithm to thematically group question-answer pairs in legal depositions and organize them hierarchically. I also designed and implemented a ranked semantic similarity search model with a custom keyword search, significantly improving the relevance of search results and decreasing retrieval time by a factor of 10. Further, I studied methods to suggest alternative questions based on those asked previously.
