I’m an international journalist based in Christchurch and the author of the international bestseller "CULT TRIP: Inside the world of coercion and control" (HarperCollins, 2022), plus three other books that were published in Germany. Before I moved to New Zealand in 2003 via Tokelau in the South Pacific to work from there as a foreign correspondent, I was a reporter in Germany. My investigative and personal features have been published in Die Zeit, Spiegel, FAZ, taz, mare, New Zealand Geographic, North & South, The Spinoff, Canvas, Sunday (Stuff), Listener, The Fair Observer and others. I've worked on a number of New Zealand documentaries as a researcher and associate producer. Over the last years, I’ve been researching more and more cults, which has resulted in CULT TRIP. It was featured on RNZ and on TV and had media coverage from the Sydney Morning Herald to Woman, Canvas and Newsroom. In 2022 and 2023, I was a guest speaker at the Nelson Arts Festival, VERB Wellington, WORD Christchurch, Tauranga Arts Festival and the Byron Writers Festival. I’m a public speaker on cult awareness, coercive control and red flags in the wellness world. As a co-founder of FACT Aotearoa (Fight Against Conspiracy Theories), I've been active in combating misinformation.
