I work in healthcare cybersecurity to positively impact patients’ lives in the times when they need it the most. Though information security is not front-of-mind for an individual in the midst of a healthcare crisis, the systems and processes we put in place allow clinicians to provide the exceptional care all patients expect and deserve. The goal of my work is to create lasting positive impacts wherever I am positioned through the implementation of new processes and technologies, and by building high-performing, highly motivated teams who can partner with departments throughout the organization with both knowledge and confidence. All too often, people think of cybersecurity teams as an impediment to progress, as a hurdle to be overcome. While my teams are always on the lookout for risks and errors, I work hard to overcome this negative perception by creating a positive culture that responds to challenges with “Yes, and…” or “No, but…” instead of a hard “No!” to any inquiry that carries risk. I work with my colleagues to utilize technology to solve complex problems, rather than dismiss those problems as impossible to solve. With these values as my north star, I’ve had the opportunity to accomplish many things of which I’m very proud, and which follow directly from my goal to create a positive, lasting impact. Some of my major accomplishments include:✓ I achieved a 100% retention rate for 2+ years following the implementation of individual employee development goals. ✓ I rolled out an enterprise-wide multi-factor authentication tool, upgrading security and resulting in a single log-in that replaced multiple previous log-in requirements, leading to 98% employee satisfaction ratings.✓ I reduced our time to respond to requests from days to minutes by standardizing and automating workflows.✓ I helped integrate over 200 newly acquired primary care practices per organizational information security standards by creating an integration playbook to increase efficiency and mitigate potential risk. These achievements have all been aimed at engaging employees as partners and promoting security awareness to establish a positive security culture. My teams and I work hard to be a resource to all departments and, though they’ll never see us, to all patients as well.
