Ankit Rath is a DPhil Candidate at the Faculty of Theology and Religion, University of Oxford, UK. Rath's DPhil in Theology and Religion is being funded by the Felix Scholarships, from the year 2024 onwards. His scholarly interests lie in the field of Performance Studies with a specific focus on Ritual Performance primarily in the context of Odisha, India. His research article "Danda Nata: Danda ra Ritiniti ebam Nari ra Charitra" (Odia) found publication in "Dandanata: Bhiti o Bhumi" (Odia; 2023), and his upcoming article, "Danda Nata: Rites of Retribution and Figuration of the Feminine" has been accepted by MargASIA, Journal of Asian Studies.Among Rath's various academic interests, a major area is Theatre Studies, originating from his prior literary background. He currently aims to revive the Odia tradition of the Absurd, and is working towards it with notable figures like Mahesh Dattani and J.P. Das. Non-academically, he engages in translation from Odia to English and vice-versa. His recent translation works include a volume of poems by Odia poet Subhashree Lenka edited with translations of his own alongside many stalwarts.He also engages in writing critical pieces on books, often latest releases, which have found publication in media outlets such as Muse India, The Asian Age, and Deccan Chronicle, in the form of book reviews.
