About Ann Beman
Based in California's Southern Sierra Nevada, I am a freelance writer and editor, certified whitewater kayak instructor, as well as a marathon runner and backcountry skier. I park my kayak, skis, and training shoes in the barn to juggle other far-ranging projects. I have an MFA in creative nonfiction from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts' Whidbey Writers Workshop, and I co-own and serve as nonfiction editor for Tahoma Literary Review. I'm also prose reviews editor for the museum of americana online journal. Before becoming a freelancer, I worked in Los Angeles as managing editor and copy editor for monthly magazines, both trade and commercial. My background reflects a unique mix of experiences requiring attention to detail, respect for deadlines, and an uber-capacity for wonder. I pen essays and flash nonfiction pieces, or parts thereof, on a daily basis, and am working on a book-length history of the human thumb. Favorite food is pumpkin pie.
Listed skills include Editing, Storytelling, Creative Writing, Non Fiction, and 13 others.
