About Ann-Catrin Andersson

My role as a Senior Scientist started at The Human Protein Atlas project (HPA), where I worked for three years from start-up and was a member of the board. The following 11 years I worked at Olink Bioscience and Olink Proteomics, also from start-up. At HPA I was a group leader building up projects with knowledge in cell culturing, RNA-extraction, Western blot, image analysis and creating quality control systems as well as mentoring students. My expertise at Olink was mainly within immunoassays in combination with molecular biology techniques. I also developed quality control methods, was involved in technical transfers as well as image analysis and relative quantification. My main focus was on customer research, product development, customer support and managing research projects with a problemsolving approach. Over a two-year period, I coordinated the EU-funded project CareMore and very much enjoyed the international collaboration. My latest positions has been focussed on clinical pathology and immunohistochemistry for patient diagnostics as well as quality assurance.

Coordinator For Caremore, 7Th Framework Eu-Project
    Olink Bioscience Jun 2015 - Feb 2017
    Uppsala, Sweden
CareMore: "Cancer Responsiveness Monitoring based on Resistance mutations in CTCs"CareMore was a three-year project running from the 1st of September 2013 until the 31st of August 2016, approved in February 2017, funded by the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission. My role this period was to coordinate the project and continue being the scientific representative from Olink Bioscience. The objective of CareMore was to address an unmet clinical need in breast cancer diagnosis for improved treatment guidance in the advanced breast cancer setting. The approach is based on the molecular characterization of circulating tumor cells isolated from the patient's blood to infer the potential response or resistance to existing targeted therapies. The potential importance of such molecular characterization of CTCs is evident from the fact that app 40% of metastatic breast cancer patients do not benefit from therapy currently. The objective was translated into a specific approach as follows:• Develop an in-situ multiplex test, detecting pHER2 and ER protein and PIK3CA mutations• Improve CTC collecting for better sensitivity• Develop image analysis algorithms for automatic scoring of all parameters• Validate clinical utility in two prospective clinical studies
  • Olink Bioscience
    Senior Scientist
    Olink Bioscience Jan 2006 - Feb 2017
    Uppsala, Sweden
Started this position in a start-up phase when we were seven persons employed and later when the company split we were around 55. When the company was small my roles were of technical expert in immunoassays, member of the board, teaching new people, answering support mail and jump in where ever help was needed. As we grew, I focussed on customer research regarding developing immunoassays with Olink detecting technique Duolink for the pharma industry, but also on academic collaborative projects aiming at developing new products within cancer research mainly. I was involved in writing Application notes and reporting results to collaborative partners in many of the EU and Vinnova projects during these years. Even though my role has become more administrative, I have almost always combined this with experimental and analysis work.Part of my responsibilities at Olink:o Member of the board (first 2 years)o Technical expert: Immunoassays, cell culturing, Image Analysis and Microscopyo Product development, validation, risk analysis, QC designo Customer research, contract service for Duolinko Support: 2nd and 3rd line Support for Duolink. o Teaching new personnelo Scientific expert in CareMore, 2013-2015, regarding immunoassays and sample handling on circulating tumour cells.o Involved in developing the second product line: Proseek Biomarker panels for multiplex detection of proteins in blood.o Representative for RnD and Supply chain at Technical transfer of Duolink product line to Sigma
  • Human Protein Atlas
    Group Leader, Senior Scientist
Human Protein Atlas Jan 2003 - Jan 2006
    Uppsala University
Excited to have been part of this large-scale project. My responsibility in the start-up period was to create the Cell Atlas from the very beginning. Selecting and culturing cell lines that could represent organs that was difficult to use in the Tissue Atlas, like normal brain and all blood cancers. I contributed as a member of the board with the group leaders from the Royal Technical Highschool (KTH) and supervised PhD-students. When the Cell Atlas was completed at the time, and launched, I started the Western blot department to further validate the antibodies that were produced. During 2005 I was involved in the Tissue Micro Array production and the histopathological selection of tissues.o Responsible for starting and completing the Cell Atlas within the Protein Atlas Project (selecting cell lines, culturing and inventing the 3D-matrix for cell histo-processing)o Involved in the initial imaging software development for automatic quantification of IHC on histo-processed cells in thecell atlas. o Started the Western Blot unit to validate the PrEST antibodies developed in the HPA project in Uppsala o Started RNA extraction to referr to the protein data presented in the Cell Atlas.o Supervising students o Member of the board
