I have worked as a senior policy advisor and tribal liaison in state government for over 17 years. As Special Assistant to the Director at the WA Department of Enterprise Services, I serve as the agency’s expert for environmental, energy and climate initiatives. I lead strategic planning efforts for long-term, large-scale, and politically sensitive capital projects with statewide, regional and national significance. I also serve as Project Director for the Deschutes Estuary Restoration Project which will restore 260 acres of estuarine and salt-marsh habitat in South Puget Sound. The estuary is at the mouth of the Deschutes River, on the footsteps of the Washington State Capitol Campus, along the shoreline of downtown Olympia, and within the Usual and Accustomed Fishing Grounds of the Squaxin Island Tribe. Restoration of the Deschutes Estuary will improve ecological conditions, achieve state water quality standards, improve climate resilience, and restore recreational water access and fishing. This is part of a multi-jurisdictional effort in Olympia, Washington, to coordinate major coastal resilience activities in South Puget Sound.
